I just had my frame replaced a couple months ago. My understanding of the process was that if you did not qualify for a new frame (3/4" perforation in certain spots), the corrosion spray would add warranty period to the frame? I was thinking at least 5 years? That's what I had took mine in for, the spray. Only to find that my frame was in worse shape than I had thought. I think the new frame carries a 10 year warranty. I should have her just about all used up by then anyways. The spots where mine was bad were just behind the front wheel wells, beside the catalytic converters where it starts to narrow into the engine bay.

Have they done the perforation test and taken photos of the frame? Mine was approved fairly quickly, but it took a bit of time to get the new frame in.

Isn't this ridiculous that frames will only be warrantied for 5-10 years!? :hair:

Got a letter in the mail to bring in the Tacoma for a frame inspection. Went to dealer, sat in waiting room, they came out and handed me the keys to a brand new Celica to drive until the frame came in. 6 months later got the truck back. I drove that thing every where, returned it with 50,000 miles on it.

Well, technically...mine will have been warranted for 22 years all together. I'm not complaining. I'm too young, but am told of the days of an engine lasting only 100,000 on cars a 40-50 years ago.

It's official, I found someone who will swap out the frame for $5k or less. That's WAY better than trying to buy a new or used replacement. Next task, trying to find decent used frame.

Is that just labor or do you mean that includes the frame cost once you find one ?

Toyota bought back my 2000 Tacoma V6 4WD TRD. Around $15K . Rather generous considering it was 2013/2014. Newer trucks they were replacing the frames. Supposedly Toyota was blaming the company they contracted to dip and paint the frames on the assembly line in California. I still miss that truck. The new ones are just too big.

IMO it was a good dependable vehicle, far from a truck.................500lbs the bumper was draggin, and the 4 foot bed held nothing.

The TRD models were that way, the suspension was designed to extend and cling to rocks, and did this rather well. The non-TRD models actually could hold at least a little bit of weight. Dunno what 2WD models capacities are/were.

I agree with you. I did roofing and siding for many years and have had nothing but full size 8ft box, reg cab trucks. Like and have a 3/4 ton. Would never want a small truck to work out of.

That was including all the parts and labor. We may have already identified a "donor" vehicle at a local salvage company. They are asking $900 for the frame. I hope it's in good shape. OEM is $3,900.

    with warranty?

could you have the used frame painted or treated with rust inhibitors before it's installed?

That sounds a little better, still on the top end of what I see in the collision industry. OEM would have a warranty but probably just a one year so used is the way to go if you can find a solid one. LKQ Corp is a nationwide network of salvage yards so if you cannot find local they may be able to locate one in a southern yard. Of course you would have shipping involved. You could also do your own search on car-part.com just search by your location and sort by distance.

better to have it powder coated as opposed to painted and rust proofed. Better yet have it sprayed with "Rhino Liner" truck bed protector which is guaranteed for life.
