T-shirt weather in here so I’m not minding the single digit chill factor much.

Nice. How many splits do you have in the stove?

Quite a difference between stove top temp and flue temp. Will the flue temp go up?

Am I seeing the primary air numbers are cut into the steel? New design?

Beautiful stove too. It looks like it is throwing some heat.

It’s a full load, like 6-8 splits maybe.

The flue temperature stays in the black unless I open the draft all the way, or open the damper and the draft. It doesn’t take long to settle down once the cat is engaged.

Yes the numbers are cut into the steel and does improve the contrast but you still need good lighting with older eyes I find.

Thanks! It’s heating my entire 2100 sq ft raised ranch in single digit chill factors, temperature about 20 with 40 mph winds. It’s about 78 in the stove room and 71 upstairs, 65 in the bedrooms. Much colder and we need the upstairs heat pump, so it’s working out exactly as planned. I couldn’t be happier.

Thanks Oldhippie! It surprised me today and stayed above 600 for just over 4 hours before slowly settling down. The wind really keeps it humping. We like the individual character of the stone very much.

Thanks for the info. I'm really interested in the Fireview and just getting ideas of how they run.

You know, from everything I’ve read here and elsewhere about the Fireview I’d have to say mine runs about the same as everyone else’s. Backwoods Savage has had his for what, a dozen years? And they both seem to perform the same. That’s a testament to how well designed it is and the consistent quality. I think just like any other stove, the quality of the wood is the biggest factor in performance. The solid 12 hour burns I get aren’t an anomaly that’s for sure. Anyone can do that with dry hardwood in this stove.

That's awesome! Not only all that, but it's nice to look at, helps with the WAF. (wife acceptance factor) Sounds like you've got a good wood supply, I'll be interested in your per year number of cords burned. Are you around the house during the day to feed it in the afternoon, or do you feed it in the AM and then go to work and not again till you get home? I'm a little spoiled as I used to work from home quite a bit and now I'm retired, but I found I was filling the stove too often and now I let the coals burn down quite a bit more even at the expense of dropping below 300 STT.. as I've got a fairly tight house these days. (but not like newer homes which a really tight)

fishingpol I'm not sure how many sq ft your heating and I forget what stove you've been using. I that you had an Ideal Steel, or do I have you mixed up with someone else. I love the FV. I'd love it more if it had a ashpan, but then it wouldn't be as pretty as it is now. People come in out front door and they are greeted with warmth that is probably unusual from what most people heating homes have with oil or gas, and their very first comment is "wow! noce and warm in here." But then once we get them relaxed and fed and we're maybe just sitting around shooting the breeze or listening to some nice jazz on my above average sound system, they'll look at the stove and go into that zone where they get hooked on how nice the stove looks and especially if we've got some light show going on with ghost flames or rolling flames.. which isn't unusual.

It's not quite the powerhouse of an IS or even the AS which does have more capacity/technology and an ashpan, but if you really don't need the extra power/capacity of a larger stove, the Fv is really tough to beat. But that's just me, and I've gotten attached to it.. maybe that's what happens to all of us when we get a stove that just fits in, does the job and looks so sweet.. and I know there are numerous others. The Jotuls, the PE T5s and so on. Lots of nice stoves out there these days. But I'd do it all over again if I was starting over in a new place or something.

What are you burning now, refresh my memory.

We have a Jotul Castine in a fireplace. We may be making a move in a few months to a slightly larger house and the cast iron stove will be too much in the kitchen area. The kitchen is attached to the back of the main house with a doorway and wall opening like a pass through where the stove may go. It will be a supplemental heater most likely.

All the stoves we have had here were in the fireplace, so I really never had a freestanding stove to see what they are capable of heating. The brick fireplace soaks up a bit of the heat.

My neighbor had a Hearthstone and it was pretty harsh heat for the size of the room almost to the point you weren't able to enjoy it.

I've read posts of a softer and more consistent heat from the Fireview. So I'm leaning that way. It is an older house and the steel stoves won't look right. I remember your neighbors Progress for sale, but it is too big and the weight may be an issue.
