Progress Cat on it's 5th year. Had trouble during shoulder season dealing with wet wood. A month or so ago I decided to swap the cat with my new back up. No real change. While the old cat was out I gave it a nice refreshing vinegar boil. Today I decided to swap back to see how it reacts. Obviously still good as it took off and raised temp when I shut the air exactly just as the new one did. Cats do have 9 lives I guess.

Good stuff! I hope my IS cat performs as well as your PH one has. How often are you burning? 24/7, just weekends, somewhere in between?

24/7 since October. This year was so wet up here, the logger delivered late because of mud in the forest which impeded him, plus the wood was wet - because of the unusual wet year. I've had wood in previous years where the weather was dry hence the wood was dryer upon cutting or delivery. This is the most challenging wet wood season so far, but every day the splits are getting better.

Yeah it was a wet one here, too. Been trying to bake my splits in front of the stove for a burn cycle or two before lighting them up. Seems to drive off some of the damp. Doesn't help that the stack I've been pulling from is basically floating after one of the springs on my back hill cut itself a tunnel that dumps out right underneath the stack. Lots of shovel work trying to get the damm water to flow where I want. Think I've finally solved it now.. Knock wood

Is there a reason you can't get further ahead on your wood supply? The 3 year plan maybe?

Good to know that long life potential is there on the catalyst. We've had ours less than a year and are super happy with it. Sure does put out a ton of heat, though. Often I'll start a fire in the morning (top down method), put the last wood in mid morning, and just let it go out till the next day. Even without adding wood, it keeps putting out heat for a long time. If I kept adding wood all day long, we'd be cooked out of the house.

That would require planning ahead, I don't think I have that skill set. Actually, I am jonesing for an electric Super Split to get me ahead. That would require quite a bit of money which, is another skill set I don't seem to posses.
