How about it Canadian border VT? Can you shed any light on the news broadcast about some guy making a statue of someone giving the finger? Seems the town won't give him a permit to move his business onto his own property (commercial too) so he finally gave up and publicly gives the town the finger!

I tried to get a picture off the news report but they had it blurred out...

Dennis, Yep this guy is making friends and influencing people. I believe the real issue is access off the road and needing the permits for the town and etc etc. It's about 15 miles Southwest if you want me to run down and get a good photo for you. it's lit up at night.

The finger is lawful under freedom of speech. Westford is a smaller town that used to be a farming community. As its grown as a suburb, there's always a clash between the old families and the new incomers.
It is extremely difficult to keep this non-political is this is a very political statement toward the town government.

I hope he drives them nuts ! I'm considering purchasing some acreage next to my shop and even though it's zoned industrial it's adjacent to the residential area where some grumpy people fight everything. So for the last year or so I've been thinking of ways to make a royal pain in the azz out of myself. Close to home the town was hassling a guy because his garbage cans could be seen from the road. They made him get a rubbermaid box for them. So he had a vehicle wrap place cover it with a picture of the garbage cans, all overflowing complete with flies!

I'd like to shake the guys hand personally. I'm sure it will bring in more traffic as it may become a tourist attraction before long.
It already has created a lot of publicity.

From what I've read the guy just isn't submitting paperwork for permits correctly, and doesn't believe he should have to.
He could rather easily hire a general contractor who is familiar with the Town's permitting process procedures just to do the paperwork . He doesn't want to.
His "problems" appear to be of his own making.
The fist on a pole is comical though.

lets face it some of this permit stuff is way overboard and just designed as an additional revenue source for muncipality's. Then there is the good olboy's syndrome besides. The latest one I like is having to get a permit to get a permit or the general call for bids on something ,but you have to get a permit to bid.

billb3 no its not that.. It Dosent take 10 years and thousands of dollars to get a permit. Most times review boards will tell you what they want..

You didnt BUT that's how long he's been working at getting THE permit!

Since Backwoods Savage asked, I was at a Christmas function and chatted with a Westford town council man.
My first response at 530pm yesterday was common knowledge in area.
My 550 am this morning was xtra detail I got last night! I hadn't had coffee yet.

Around my home it takes a minimum of 2 months- county board and local board meet once a month, so a permit has to begotten from the county first, then local. sometimes takes 3 months as may involve farm preservation board, even longer if i have to deal with state Dept of natural resources.

I sincerely hope I didn't open a can of worms with this thread. I just thought it was kind of funny.
