I saw this trolling on craigslist. I'm hoping it is what I think it is, but also dreading that it could be something I don't bother with. What do y'all think this is? It's certainly big, and it's certainly firewood. This is the best picture, of the couple there are.
There's zero tulip poplar around here. Well I'm sure some have planted it at some point in yards, but this screenshot summizes what I've seen. That I've never seen one in Wisconsin.
I'd say most of the guesses here mirror mine. Could be one, or a mix of Maple, Ash, Oak, but its definitely not Willow.
Horkn it appears you are like us as we have none around here. I guess there is some of that south of us but not much that I am aware of. I never saw any until I went to PA.
I've never seen one and your map shows it not in NH or Maine. I'm in NH, but only live 4 towns away from Maine.
And that's all that I care about. I think I definitely see some ash, and appears to be some oak. I'm contacting him now.
The bark really looks like ash (almost 90% sure): the bark is pale brown to grey, which fissures as the tree ages.
Georgia tulip poplar. A few 30' logs we pulled out, a load of the younger trees and a load of a 24" dia showing nice green heart wood. Sometimes the old growth trees will have almost black hearts, blue or red streaks, like this big half block at the carving show.
