Haha no heat pump yet. Who knows with grandfather. I do miss hauling wood more sometimes, we went from hauling some or all ourselves to great-uncle cutting it and we'd pick it up from his shed (on a different property than his house, a few minutes away), then last year he brought it all cut and ready. Full sticks at least this year haha.

Maybe you should hang out with great-uncle more, sounds like he's got it going on!

He's a better man than his brothers in a lot of ways, he keeps busy. I guess I been busy cutting and hauling too, just mostly thorn bushes and other brush instead of anything suitable for furnace use. But, my yard is getting useable at least.

My heat pump sucks way down here i have no idea how yall get away with them like i am hearing folks in these colder climates do. I know most of it has to do with my houses insulation or lack there of. But when its down in the 30s it sucks when its down in the low 20s or below its just worthless, runs constant and the temps just drop till strips come on to heat it back up, they cut out and pump still going. And this was all when it was less than 2 years old so age was not a factor. After that wnter with those cold snaps is when i went to burning wood full time in the winter.

Not gonna make much difference in size. We have a lot of beautiful wild trees, but don't see many huge ones. At least in my region

Odd, I've heard nothing but good about them here. We don't tend to get too far under freezing point though. Lack of insulation will diminish the effectiveness of any heating system though haha

I mean I have it, not as much, as I should. But heck I live in SC in a house built almost 70 years ago. Only r19 in ceiling, none in the floor and about half of the external walls have none. Just bricks, wood siding, interior wood sheathing (tounge and groove boards) and then drywall. That's my wall composition .

So yea, when it's 15f outside it's downright brutal.

Usually mostly spruce, fir and occasionally birch for the most part.

We mill logs for lumber and wood crafts. The waste slabs are sold for firewood and kindling. We also purchase firewood logs for processing and re-sold. Currently on deck, 16 cord of 8' hemlock and pine (12-36" dia.). +30 cord of red pine (16ft x 8-20"). About 2 cords of kindling. Just started selling blocked and split firewood, sold out of what we had (8 cord). Now waiting on delivery of +30 cord firewood.

Is there much logging in Nova Scotia? It's great that you are using every bit of the logs, down to kindling.

Forestry is big business here in NS. Even the smallest bits can be made into crafts.

That wood in those stacks is gonna burn fast!! Look at those tiny splits from those slabs!!!

I can imagine you selling out, 8 cords is nothing, up in that part of the world!! Heck I burn 3 or more cords my self and I live way down here in SC.

And welcome to the club! Stay awhile, make yourself comfortable. Buy a shirt or hat! Haha

G’day all. I went for a walk around my stacks at dusk tonight and had a bit of a count up.
