    Bad news for my truck. 2008 Chevy Silverado 1500. The frame is completely rusted out and won't pass annual inspection. Only 30K miles, no body rust. Needless to say, I'm super duper pizzed right now. I have very little cash on hand so I need to be looking at a well used replacement. I'm thinking of a Toyota Tundra. At least the frame rust is warranted on them. Any of you guys want my Backrack headache rack +/- bed rails before I junk it? Anyone need a low miles engine or a newly rebuilt transmission?:headbang::headbang::headbang::headbang::headbang::headbang::headbang::headbang::headbang::headbang::headbang::headbang::headbang::headbang::headbang::headbang::headbang::headbang::headbang::headbang::headbang::headbang::headbang::headbang::headbang::headbang::headbang::headbang::headbang::headbang::headbang::headbang::headbang::headbang::headbang::headbang::headbang::headbang::headbang::headbang::headbang::headbang::headbang::headbang::headbang::headbang::headbang::headbang::headbang::headbang::headbang::headbang::headbang::headbang::headbang::headbang::headbang::headbang::headbang::headbang::headbang::headbang:

    :(:( I sure can't like that. Hope you can find a decent truck at a reasonable price.

    The rate of decay in modern vehicles is pathetic! Uncle had a similar rig the trailer reciever tore off the frame towing on the highway. Luckily no one was hurt. There are cars that have been in the boneyard for 30 years that have less rust!

    My 09' Silverado has about 63,000 miles on it. The previous owner under-oiled it to death. There is "0" rust underneath that vehicle ANYWHERE !!!! We live in the land of salt here big time.................. Every fall we re-oil then head for the dustiest road we can find and just drive up and down numerous times. The dust/dirt cakes on the oil coated underside keeps the rust at bay. Only way to fly!!!!!

    Nope. You can poke your finger through the frame in multiple places. My mechanic thought he could fix it at first, but as usual, the more he "poked" around the more it crumbled.

    That sucks Mike.
    :headbang::headbang:

    Having issues with our '09 Silverado as well, just last week power steering line let go. Rust on the steel line of course.

    Guess it's a good thing I've been working overtime.

    Two of my buddies had two separate early to mid 2000's Chevy's that had hitch/frame failures during towing. One was a receiver torn from the rotted frame and the second actually buckled/broke the frame rails just behind the rear axle. Lucky no one was hurt.

    Toyota's are nice but hold their value. So if you are looking for a inexpensive replacement, you may need to broaden your search. There is a reason Toyota may now offer a frame rust warranty. There were some really bad times for Toyota and frame rust issues.

    Sorry to hear about that. Completely unacceptable for this to happen that early but it does all the time. GM takes 50 billion dollars but can’t help when their products fail, horrible. I had a ‘06 Tahoe and the frame was getting pretty bad, luckily I hit a deer and it was totaled so I didn’t have to go through the same thing you are.

    I have a Tacoma now. I really like the truck but Toyota has had some serious frame issues also on the Tacoma’s. Not sure about the tundra frames. The latest body style is really sharp though. Thought the previous tundras looked like a weird whale or something, wasn’t really a fan.

    Still is. At least in the second gen Tacoma’s. Think they would of learned after the buy back of the first gen’s. I guess all they learned was that a buy back was too expensive. Now let’s just spray some chit on the frame and call it good, too bad if it rots out a year or two down the road. All that CRC(corrosion resistant coating) does is trap moisture and rust underneath further progressing the issue. Don’t even get me started on my CRC process, what a joke. I have a case open with Toyota corporate that I’ve been fighting going on a year now. Rant over, for now...

    Going to be a few years till’ we see if anything has changed with the 3rd gen Tacoma’s.

    This ^ ^ ^.
    There is a guy here locally that does oil spray service (new oil, not used)...$40 cars, $50 trucks...works way better than undercoat too...IME.
    Stinks that this happened to you on this truck Mike, but whatever you get next, I'd get 'er oil sprayed ASAP.

    Hey Mike, let me know what your in the market for and I can surf out here, stuff never corrodes like what you describe and from what I have heard from others here. One way ticket and driving it home could give you a better price and better vehicle than shopping out there. Let me know.

    I have a buddy that lives near Johnson City Tennessee and he is a used truck dealer down there... he finds southern stuff for people and brings it up here to Ohio all the time, usually here at least once every week or two...if you were interested in having him look for something for you, I could put you guys in touch so you can talk to him...maybe "put your order in"...he can find whatever you want...be it late model low miles, or ole beater wood hauler (keep in mind, old beater wood hauler down there is still not rusted out junk...at least nothing like up north here anyways!)
