Since you didn't specify paper/white birch, I'm going to throw in my pic of splitting some Black Birch..... Soooooooo much easier with hydraulics!!!! Oh yeah... and a gratuitous pic out of my hotel window last week in Seattle..
She did exactly what she was told to do which meant that I still had all 10 fingers at the end of the operation.. Great little helper.. I laughed when I looked at the pic that my wife took. My daughter was dutifully wearing her hearing protection and safety glasses while my safety glasses were perched on top of my hat.... oh well, so much for setting the example!!!!
Yes I had sent PMs. Seems like some of my posts don't load into the site fully or something. I don't get why my phone hates this place but works fine elsewhere! (insert some conspiracy theory here) I fired up the computer to post this. Even on the computer it hates this place. Each letter I type makes the computer beep?! It didn't end up working out yet, but a friend is in touch with a guy that is land clearing and all the wood is up for grabs. I'm told much is birch. Plan was to skid logs to a landing with one of those 4x4 golf cart deals and load logs on trailers (with my Bobcat). Basically to be worth it would need to have an "operation" going with several guys. Once I know more I'll try PMing again or maybe you have email?
Always Interested in getting birch. Missed out on the highway ROW widening north of Wasilla, back was screwed up for a couple weeks . Was close to home , but better judgement prevailed . Golf & fishing season close, back is much better. Did some splitting & stacking slow & steady , back held up well. No PM yet.
