Walnut tops

I have access to some walnut tops. I can drive right up to most of them. Anything wrong with burning walnut. Thought I would just make sure before I start cutting. Thanks

 

Have at it. Has cool purple and green flames. It does leave a fluffy cloud almost like ash... but it burns hot all the same and smells rich outside.

 

Never tried it myself. Not the highest BTU’s but I’ll burn anything that gets in front of my saw.

 

I've burned some black walnut over the last couple years. Personally I like it, it has a good smell and it burns fair.

 

Dries nice, burns nice. Easy to split, and looks pretty sitting in the stacks. You might even want to save a few for shaving down into nice wood projects like I did

 

Burned a lot of it last year in the owb. Wish I had saved some now that I burn inside, it would have smelled great warning up next to the stove. I found it to burn very thoroughly - lots of ash but few coals, and the coals tended to be smallish and fall apart easily. Heat output similar to red maple. I did save a slab from where the tree began its fork and a few limbs - Think they will make a nice side table someday.

 

I've burned my share as well, maybe 10-15 cord over the years. I like it seasoned 2yrs if possible. As stated more ash than coals & medium heat output with a very nice fragrance. I'll take it when available, but won't go too far out of the way for it. Dumped here, no problem.

 

I am slightly allergic to it, thats the only thing i dont like about cutting it. I will break out in a rash on my arms, but since its pretty cold now, probably not a problem.

 

I like burning it fine if I can't turn it into something other than firewood.

 

Great shoulder season wood, get all you can. Be sure to c.s.s. for at least a couple of years before you burn it.

Got cord or so sacked at he inlaws farm. Looking forward I burning it next year.

 

Consensus is...it’s OK-not a fave-the fluffy cloud ash is annoying, does produce beautiful blue/green flames-like amateur cutter said, dont go out of my way for it, but I’ll burn it...more ash than its worth, less BTU’s than ash...if its free, get after it...It’s a worthy wood when the big league ain’t handy...

 

I've burned a couple cords. Good stuff.
If it's easy and free, get it all.

 

As stated, not the best but it'll burn just fine. I love the smell of walnut.

Free wood is good wood, unless it's elm or gum.

 

I've sold a fair amount for campfire wood. Splits easy, nice blue flame and smells good while burning.

 

My favorite as far as smell goes...almost perfumey.

 

Got several free loads this summer. I have a customer that loves it in her fireplace because of the colored flames. 1st pic is me running bear 1998 's ported 395 at our mini GTG. 2nd pic is the FREE pile.
