I went to HD and got the NC30 today:dex: I will explain why and add pics in a bit but I'm trying to get it hooked up and do the break in fire right now.

Quick question for papadave and any other nc30 owners....the stove adapter for the double wall stovepipe didn't fit in the whole way. I got the stovepipe on but there is a tiny little gap between the stovepipe and the stove top. How did you hook yours up?

Its a common issue...seems like every other time I hear of a NC30 purchase, there is a follow up post about the adapter not fitting.
IIRC, when I put my in-laws in, I just stuck the doublewall pipe right down in directly...I seen no reason for using the adapter and honestly I needed the extra room to make all the geometry work...since FIL put the chimney in the corner of the room instead of directly above the stove as I wanted!
So on your adapter, the inner pipe fits down in, but then bottoms out before the outer pipe sits down onto the stove top?

So the reason I went today...
Originally I was gonna use the Osburn to get through the winter. It seemed to be doing okay but not great. I thought I would wait until HD possibly had their sale to purchase a new stove. However, yesterday I wasn't having any luck hunting. After lunch I ran and got a load of elm. I split some of the small stuff and used the MM. It read in the 16-18% range. I thought this is great, I'll use this knowing it is ready to burn.

Last night I loaded the stove up with elm to go to bed. I started cutting the air as usual. Everything seemed fine but the STT kept rising and rising. I had to eventually close the air the entire way along with the flue damper to keep the stove from over firing. I was up until 1 a.m. babysitting it. I finally decided that was enough. I was determined to pick up a new stove today. If for nothing but the peace of mind knowing a new stove should not be leaking air anywhere.

Some of you know I've had issues with runaway fires already. I started loading E/W which seemed to help some but didn't solve the issue. I figure I'll try this one out. I believe HD has a 90 day return policy so I'm gonna find out if it was the stove or something else.

    Now some pics...

Yes that is correct. I just took the adapter off as well and stuck the pipe on. That seemed to solve that issue.

Yeah I think I'm gonna like this one. The Osburn was great with the bay window. I just couldn't seem to control the thing.

I don't know how much I'd classify the NC30 as a good "low and slow" stove (I personally would still install the pipe damper) but they'll sure bring da heat!

Oh yeah the flue damper did not come out. Its staying there as a "just in case it was not a stove issue" with the Osburn.

I did one small one just because I wasn't sure how bad the paint stink was gonna be...then I told them to not make the next one too huge...but they really don't do huge fires anyways since it is "too big" for their place. I doubt is has ever been run much past half its capacity.

I have found the nc30, at least in my installation, to be very controllable. I run it hard and hot but at any time I can shut the intake and it goes cold.

Good luck Marvin! You deserve it after what you’ve been through. Keep us posted. It already looks like a nicer stove from where I’m sitting.

I'm glad you picked one up. Seeing how much grief the other one was causing you, things can't help but go smoother now!

IDK, I bought a new washing machine tonight. After replacing the one that broke last fall. One thing was easier for me, but several others fell short and actually created bigger problems. I understand the need for different. Expensive, but......

I hope this works for you!!!

Also, much hands on experienced advice here from others w that particular stove :)

I hope I find the same. I am figuring on having to run it pretty hot since I heat from my basement. What temp do you usually run it at? What does Englander consider over firing? Where do you place your thermometer? I have only skimmed through the manual but did not notice this info in it.
