How are the EPA stoves more fragile?

If you've ever bent or knocked out a reburn tube or cracked/ broken a vermiculite baffle board you might consider some newer stoves a bit tender.

Two cracked vermiculite baffles in 2 years here! And I barely ever even touch them.

SBI has been great honoring the warranty, finally sent me an upgraded c-cast baffle.

Well,,,,in the old days you could position an oversized round against the square opening of an Allnighter and pound it in with a sledgehammer giving you four pieces of kindling for the next fire. Those days are gone LOL.

    That is true.
I admit to burning less than stellar wood in all my stoves at one time or another. My PH hates wet more than any of the older stoves but it doesn’t create excessive creosote from it.
How about other stoves folks??? Do the secondary burn stoves build up creosote with wet wood? Just wondering what other people see.

But you couldn't have done that to pre epa stove from the 70's and 80's either. Sure does not sound like fragile in terms of overfiring either. I have made this argument before and your comments reinforce it ... The EPA monikers on the modern stoves have a negative connotation. Like the government made your stove dainty and weak. Regulations aren't always a bad thing...especially when the industry doesn't innovate on its own.

I had to replace my vermiculite baffle this year. 4 years burn on it. And 1 cracked brick.
