$269.00 to sweep a chimney should include a weekend alone with Yanet Garcia (google her, it's worth it).

You can get a full set of cleaning rods and a brush for about half of what that guy wants to charge you. You're already in the black and then you can sweep twice a year for peace of mind. Everybody's setup is different, however, I prefer sweeping from the bottom exterior cleanout. I tried it from the top once and dang near fell of the roof as the brush got stuck. Screw it, I don't care if I get a cloud of ash/buildup in my face while sweeping from the bottom, falling off the roof ain't on the agenda.

I clean my own. I only have one elbow going into the back of the stove. I take the stove pipe screw loose from the back of the stove. Move the stove and put a bag on the stove pipe. Get on the roof (single story) lift the new chimney cap off. Then with my 8" round wire brush and homemade rods from plastic conduit, I brush the chimney out. I tie a string on a flashlight and lower it all the way down to the elbow and inspect the chimney pipe walls. It's only 12' long so it's an extremely easy chimney to clean. Down below I scoop and vacuum out the soot. Put the stove back, all done, takes about 30 mins.

This new install is going to be a bit more difficult than my previous one which was a straight shot and low ranch roof. The current set of rods I have are not very flexible - so I see a soot eater assembly in the future and perhaps some pvc sections for more flex ability. Apx. 18ft worth of length perhaps a bit more. It is the set back of the 2-45's that have me a bit concerned rod wise for a bottom up. Top down again those 45's come into place as a collection point. previous experience has shown that most of any build up generally occurs on the exposed portion of the flue ( it is insulated stuff- Selkirk) so whether bottom up or top down the offset is my contention point. About a 12/7 roof.

Believe I'd forget the small offset. If at all possible. Looks like a PIA. No offense:whistle:

wasn't my first choice roofing structure dictated offset . either that or it would have been in the middle of the area. Thought about a corner install , but that would have meant 15 ft of exposed flue plus supporting structure for same in order to clear peak of main roof line.

Just cleaned my pipe and stove this morning. I estimate my time at 32 dollars an hour. Took 1.5 hours from start to finish. Even did the glass.... do the math.
