They are torx, but I am pretty sure I have one that will fit in one of my sets. The problem he was having was with a small section of metal that acts kind of like a retainer at the bottom of the muffler. The torx screw that holds that in is 90 degrees from the face of the muffler, in a little tight spot. I didn't have the heart to tell him that he could just rotate it down to remove the muffler, instead of having to remove it completely.

The fasteners are T27, same as most Stihl fasteners.

I was wondering about that because I think I'm going to look at some tomorrow and wanted to take a tool with me.
I will just take my Top Saw tool and I will be all set

No breakfast cereal was harmed in the course of the hook up. :zip:

I had a pair of bucking spikes that fit his saw. They were just gathering dust here, so I'm sending them his way. Just good guys helping other good guys out. That's what FHC is all about!:handshake:

I test ran it last night and was very pleased. I do have some work that I want to do to it before I get a really feeling of how it is going to perform. Those idiots at HD, or the last person to rent it, had the chain SOOOOOO tight. It really makes me wonder about some people. As I take things apart, clean, and replace, I will certainly bring you all along on the journey....through pictures. What I would like to do, maybe Father's Day weekend, is make a video. It was an early Father's Day present, after all.

Unfortunately, I can only pretend to be that cool. I just don't think I have it in me to ever reach that level of coolness.

Does it take years of a saw porting the exhaust?

Depends on how "hot" you go. In some cases it could add years to the life of the saw.

I am starting to see that by the forums
Looks like best is to stick with original holes and remove baffles or anything in way.if do make new hole stick with same size of exhaust port maybe tad bit bigger.and keep exhaust output holes streamlined all way out.aiming exhaust gases away from saw and operator
Bigger is not always better in this case

Here’s a good rule of thumb for ya. If it’s a stock saw. Just make your exhaust outlet. 70-80 percent the size of the exhaust inlet/cylinder Exhaust port. As for sound. I prefer to add a second outlet as far back in the muffler as I can or just enlarge oem hole. Seems like if you bounce the sound off the front off the muffler and make it travel back before it goes out. The quieter it will be but that’s just opinion. Lol.

Also if you open the muffler and keep the spark arrestor in place that will also help keep the noise level down.
I cut in national forest so I keep the spark arrestor on a lot of the saws that have been modified.
