The trick I was taught to remember this is: Red Oak leaves pointy like red mans arrow...White Oak leaves rounded like white mans bullet. Works for me...
There's a few apps out there for your phone that can help you determine a tree by its leaves..... Many years of messing with trees has me pretty good at knowing the species from either the leaves, the bark or the grain. But there's always a stumper from time to time....
