You know, I've made some progress on the "plan".....the "gripper thingies" are now next to the front door under the bench, and have been since last winter (which was supposed to be for putting on such things as shoes, boots, gripper thingies and which now holds several plants). They're a bit dusty............does dust help with the grippiness?

Gloomy looking -10 C feels -13, or 14 F feels 9 kind of day so far. Should make it to -6 C or 20 F later on. Poplar in the reactor.

Currently 27° with the low expected around the upper teens. It's been colder so far this year here. Last year my natural gas usage was at 12 therms for November. This year it' was 28. It's not for lack of burning firewood.

I cant recall any roofs collapsing in around here as the building code takes into account the snow loads. I have seen the weight on some of the 70s built houses cause door and window pressure with some cracked window panes. We had an unusually high snow pack a few years ago and I had 5' plus snow on my roof. When I walked around up there I could barely move it was so deep. I called a local property inspector that Ive recommended to clients over the years. I said to him "Do you think we have to worry about the snow load on our roofs this year?" I had seen a bunch of people shoveling off their roofs in the days leading up to this phone call. He said "Sean, if you shovel off your roof you will never know". I couldnt help but chuckle.

Its -12c/10.5f at the moment. We had 3 inches of snow overnight. The stove is full of Larch for an overnight burn.

What a difference a day makes. We hit 50 around 1 yesterday then the wind picked up and it was 40 around 2 and 26 this morning and quite breezy. Loaded up with beech and oak at 7:30 and we’re enjoying the coals at 6 and it’s 77 inside. Cold all week but no storms for a change, just a few scattered flurries in the forecast. We’re down to 9 hours of daylight and already looking forward to the turnaround in a month or so.

One split to burn down coals for the last hour, so I'm about to reload with a few splits. Should hit about 30 today.

Sitting at -9 C feels -16, or 15 F feels 4 at the moment, so not bad at all considering. Temp inside tells me it wasn't much colder overnight. Looks to be some wind and snow kicking up in the next day or two, but the bright side to that is the insulating qualities of snow. Sure noticed that mid November we had a -24 C feels -32 C night with no snow to bank the trailer skirting.

Thankful it is not windy today. Looks beautiful with sunshine again this morning (rare) but the light NW wind we have is raw.

Cut some wood yesterday and hope to do more this afternoon. Nice working in the woods.

    Accuweather says we're sunny.
    We're not.
Well, my disposition is, but the sun is hiding behind some pretty ominous looking cloud cover.

I believe the winter solstice is around Dec. 21, not 31.
