My son and I went out today picked up some Hardhack, Beech, and a dead standing Black Birch. The beech was a blow down from last year, the Hardhack was root rotted and on the ground and the BB was dead standing. Here is the load We brought to his house. Not a bad haul.
Nice job. Looks like a great day. Never heard of hardhack, does it go by some other name or is that it?
Cool, thanks. Never heard it called that before. Definitely have heard of hophornbeam and ironwood. Never had any though that I know of.
The BB was starting to get a little punky but the Beech was solid as it had snapped off and was hanging between two other trees so it was off the ground. Th e Hardhack was on the ground but still hard one of them was hollow for the first few feet..
The snow is pretty crazy - I gave up a couple weeks ago and I'm waiting for frozen ground. Everything here is saturated and there's still 3-4 inches of white crap in my woods. Looks like you have a few scattered patches, and you're only a dozen or so miles away. Meanwhile 10 miles southeast of me, they're still digging out from under three feet of the stuff.
Yeah! we didn't get much snow here and it is all gone now. I would like to see the ground firm up some I'm tired of this rain and muddy crap.
I can't believe that it has been two years since I posted this. Still cleaning up here is some Red Maple I pulled out of the swamp. Here is one I need to get about 16"DBH Headed out of the woods with a bucket full of limb wood in the Kubota I stopped to check another small Ash tree that blew over. When I went to start the tractor it wouldn't start wiggled the PTO lever and it started. Will have to check it out.
