I cut when the opportunity arises, "but" I much prefer cutting in the cooler/cold weather. I "HATE" ticks, mosquitoes, blackflys, and every kind of other bug thats associated with going in the woods in the spring and summer! After a VERY BAD batch of of Lymes disease a few years back, I will almost turn down cutting in the woods. I can be picky now, I'm sitting on a "solid" 4 years worth of wood.
Where? Haven't found one yet that "truly" works! And when you sweat like I do, I can use up a whole can in an hour...
Thing I love about cutting in the cold months is that one piece of wood heats you up several times, bucking, splitting, stacking, hauling into the house, and the best reward of them all burning it!!!!
My 1st year hoard I got a little behind this year due to work but I've been at it almost every day lately
Uh, yeah! I think it's the Deep Woods OFF! stuff with a high Deet value. I also wear long sleeves and long pants. I can get a sunburn just thinking about being in the sun, so I have to dress that way. Maybe I'm acclimated. A little sweat never hurt anybody......that I know of.
I can appreciate that being Irish and English... I try to get my "burn" out of the way early but as of the last 3 years I've been getting "pre-cancer" removed from my face and ears every fall.
That's the only stuff that'll work for 15 minutes or so with me, I have cans of it. I bought one of those things that you wear and light off when we went up to Brians GTG in New Hampshire, I should have just swatted at the mosquitoes with it, it would have done better.
That's not a viable option. I'm (no DNA test yet) Scotch/Irish and whatever else (brother had his done and they found a small amount of middle African continent), so yeah. Burn baby, burn. Had some pretty bad ones when I was a kid.
I used to mostly cut in the winter, but I've caught myself cutting quite a bit in the summer the last few years. 30-35 degrees is about perfect for me if I had to pick, even though any day cutting wood is a pretty good day.
Its all that beer ur sweatin out....betcha them there mosqitoes got a pretty good BUZZ on when there done with ya...
I cut when I have time, usually summer time, heat i can deal with, mosquitoes i just light another cigarette and stay away, drink a ton of water and the most important thing is when you're hot, sweaty, caked with saw dust you just have to embrace the suck!
I find when I'm sweaty and the saw dust sticks, it helps block the biting bugs...or many of them at least.
That's what I had up at Brians!!! Didn't do $#!T.... The first day we were up at our rental because we got there early, we sat outside with it and "still" got eaten up!
I agree, I'd rather not while it is hot and sticky. But, when you are a suburban scrounger you have to cut when the wood comes available! If you wait half a day 3 other people are after it. We have some dryer weather coming up soon. Hopefully I will be cutting at the wood lot!
