Started yesterday, the first day of rifle deer season here. I'm not very far into the woods. I'm not more than 3 or 400 feet away from the house. Yesterday afternoon cut up this oak that blew down in some wind we had a couple weekends ago: And a top nearby that came down. This afternoon a couple of 9 or 10 inch oaks that were dead standing: 2nd one has the blue stains . It's not near a house and I don't recall a fence here, so who knows what it is. I didn't hit it. (that I know of ) There were a couple of dead 4 or 5 inch trees I cut up too. Hey, it's oak. Stacked: A top. It's oak. It's hard so I cut it up. A gypsy moth and drought dead white oak. This one's got the blue stain too. Didn't find it. Didn't get that one stacked. Maybe tomorrow afternoon when/if I cut the other half of the double tree. It won't go anywhere.
(taking notes as I eyeball the dead white Oak. yep, yep... werkin’ on muh public edumacation ) Thanks for rhe help billb3 ! ~Lissa
We are getting hit with snow here and the wood pile is getting covered up again! Maybe the snow is better than rain ???
IMHO yes, I can work in the snow & not be miserable, the rain not so much. Nice looking bit of work done there billb3 !
Ever have one of those days where your saw won't start right after you use it a little bit, then you step in deer chit, you cut a bit, shut the saw off, then it won't start again and you step in some more deer chit, then you cut a little more and your saw won't start again ? Managed to get one more white oak down and mostly cut up with the little time I had.
Blue stain=lead. Normally acquired on the 1st day of rifle deer season Kidding! Keep yer head down this time of year in the woods. Nice piles you got going.
I think billb3 is saying, if his saw doesn't start all he has to do is step in deer chit and his saw will start
One more white oak today. I thought I took a pic of it but I guess not. Stack of white oak is getting longer: Next one has horse corral wire in it. There's a few trees here with those tell-tale scars, some with the wire still hanging out.
Heard two hunters popping off some shots this afternoon. One to the north of me aroundabout a thousand/fifteen hundred feet it sounded like and another one south of me a little further away.
Or simply roll in it to get that crap all over them... I remember years ago our lab used to look for it and roll in it. My wife gave him a bath, which he didn't mind at all. She let him back outside and he took off on a run. Came back with it all over the top of his shoulders again. That was the last time she gave him a bath... I just laughed.
