    Couldn't find anything by that name. Closest is Elm. Maybe a local pronunciation of Elm?

    It's a really good burning hardwood split it by hand it's some tough chit.

    It sometimes can look a little reddish but if it is a bright red then it is box elder.

    I'm guessing it is elm.

    It's a variant of the pronunciation of elm. When I've seen it written, it's spelled "ellum". In fact, there is an area of Dallas Tx called Deep Ellum and the name comes from nearby Elm Street. Deep Ellum, Dallas - Wikipedia

    No splitter doing it all with my axe and 8 pnd sledge and a 3 pnd sledge.

    They make engineered structural beams out of that wood. Typically used in very long spans where it's not practical to use steel :cool::whistle:

    I just worked a cord of elm with my 8 lb maul. If possible let it set for a week of temperatures never getting above freezing. I couldn't believe how much the frost setting into the wood helped me to pop that elm apart. I did one round a night as it froze and it was magic the night it finally froze through. Good luck!
