But I’m so damm sick of tarps. Threw it together in a few minutes from scraps I had laying around and it is only temporary for the winter. Hopefully it’ll keep a bit of rain and snow off the wood that’s ready to head into the house. On a side note, I’m thinking that the black rubber roofing I’m using as a top cover on my big stacks is sort of like a oven when the sun beats down on it. I haven’t used a MM on the wood yet but it seems really dry. Anyone else use rubber roofing for top cover, do you think your wood drys any quicker?
I use both and haven’t put it to the test yet-I agree it does bake in the hot summer/fall sun-single row, south facing and well off the ground certainly helps.
You're right. It ain't pretty. You should bring that up to me so I can use it where no one will pass judgement on it. You can have it back after winter breakup. As far as the questions on top covering or not helping wood dry faster, well...........
Looks pretty good to me. I have done a lot of 'temporary' things here at the farm...funny how 'temporary' can turn into 'long term' without even realizing it.
I know exactly what you mean, done that plenty of times. This one will absolutely not turn permanent though, it’s right on our deck where the wife puts all out summer items and her herb garden.
Yes sir-two 33’ railroad rails supported by concrete casing and the basod block in the middle-I have a few more I’d like to set up, at least one more single row-this holds exactly a cord-Trust this finds you well and warm
Many moons ago I split, I think, about 6 or 7 cord in early April (that's when I took the picture in the avatar). Most I covered with old steel roofing. The last stack, the first one in the first picture was covered with rubber roofing though and it was also where it would get the most sun and wind. I could not see any difference for drying. EDIT: The wood was split and stacked in 2009. It has all been burned.
I hear you g60gti on the tarps, they are a pita sometimes! I got fed up few month back and built a small wood shed to hold my dry wood waiting to be burned. Rack looks great and it does the job!! I get very little sun on my racks due to heavy tree canopy. Most sun I'll get is now in the winter months with all the leaves gone. This past summer with no sun and all that rain was just awful drying conditions!!
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder! And I behold beauty! Well done! Now, get out there and get some wood c.s.s. so you can build more beauty!
