Looks good Dave! Do you think it would be a good idea to have a brace from the vertical square tube to the I-beam to strengthen the rear axle? I was thinking if you hit some sort of obstacle while pulling the splitter it would place lots of stress on the vertical square tube from the axle to the I-beam.. Not an engineer just wondering what you think?

Awesome Pete! And, you had said you wanted to be able to use the winch once in a while to skid a log to the splitter. Perfect.

Ray, Good thought but I'm "never" going to tow the splitter behind a truck Not to mention that 4" x 4" square is 1/4" thick:eek: If I tore that off that beam, it was hit by a train! o_O But thanks for the input:D… That square came from an old Gantry lifting crane, it was one of the legs to give you an Idea of it's capacity. Originally the gantry was rated at 5 ton, "military rated" :whistle:I am going to replace the wheels and axle, they were just to wheel it around while I was building it. I "should" have the whole thing up and running in May sometime…

Really like Ariens products! Great snowblowers and their lawn tractors looks darn nice as well! How do you like their splitter?

Nice work WeldrDave! An umbrella/canopy of some kind to protect you from the sun is an excellent idea. What colors and when are you painting it? Beer? I don't see no stinking beer in those pics. ?:D

Hey Ray, haven't seen you in awhile. How's it going?
I did a little research on the before buying Ariens and
for the money I'm very happy with it so far. I've put 7
cords through it so far this spring and all is well.

Hi Darrin! Been doing OK thanks! Hope you're doing well too.. Moved 4+ cords into the shelter and still waiting for 3 cords to be delivered here.. Seems to be a firewood shortage after the cold winter.. Need to get this soon so I can get it stacked and start the drying process..

Love mine, runs great, very compact and splits fast. Split from either side, use the table to store the next round, lots of open workspace in front of the beam area. It's a great little splitter. I just came in from bucking and splitting all day. Stacked about 2 cord of Black locust, Sassafras, and Red Oak. I'm now done till next winter. Yard full, 2 sheds full, racks fill, chink bin full. Can't fit another split anywhere in my house/yard. DONE! Got 8.5 cords ready to go. I'm good for 4 years minimum.

Same here, I've taken up about 800 sq ft of space behind the garage for drying racks. 10+ cords (almost) ready and waiting.
