Ladies & Gentlemen - my brother in law is asking for a magnetic stove thermometer for Christmas. Any suggestions on good quality thermometers and where to get them? Thanks in advance for your advice!
^^ I have that, but it doesn't do me much good. I have an insert and can only put it on the front corner where, I'm quite sure, it's not giving me a proper reading.
I'd like to redo my insert so that it is further out of my fireplace like yours. Ya wanna come over han help? There's a or 2 in it for ya! By the way, the Buck 80 is only 800 pounds!
I have a Rutland thermometer, which is a town in Vermont. I have mine on the stove pipe about 30" above the stove, I don't care what my actual stove temp is. All I need to know is what the temp is on the stove pipe is on my old school Vermont Castings. We been running that way 35 yrs, and hope to do it for 35 more.
I am using a condar chimguard thermometer and it works great. I've verified the temp with a laser infrared gun. Spot on according to the laser gun. Buy them on amazon, ebay etc, just search and find the place with the best price. Can't recall where I bought mine now.
Sure looks like it will fit right there in the center. It's only the center of the thermometer that does the measuring
Most of what you see is an overhang of the top. The air pushed by the fan comes out across the top of the stove under that lip. I actually think there is a double top for circulating air around the box for heating before being pushed into the room for heat. In the center of what you see would be in the center of the catalyst which may give a false reading. In the end, I heat my house quite well with that insert. I only get a cup of junk or less when I clean the pipe so the thermometer isn't really needed. It was a gift and I just keep it there mostly out of respect for the gift giver.
I use that Inferno one too, I think it works well. Meant for the stove top, and I think it's fairly accurate. I've been thinking about a probe thermometer for the flue but meh...
I've had the best luck with condar. Had several Rutland and they were all way off. To be more exact, get one of these (there are various brands) and then you can check all over the stove and flue.
