I’m casually looking for some equipment on CL, and occasionally (like today) see a deal that is too good to be true (70hp Kubota cabbed low hour 4wd loader for $15K, at about a third the price of new). I can believe people giving away lower cost things, but am highly skeptical of posts like this. What are the scams going on these days?
How many pictures does it have? And does the ad have a phone number local to you? Many times the scam ads only have 1 or 2 photos...and the darn thing looks better than new almost. Sometimes they will get way over descriptive, and give details that don't make sense. If it says to contact someone through email, run....or if you contact them and they say to contact someone else because they just posted the ad for their buddy, or cousin, whatever. Also, often times they have an out of state phone #...not always though. If something smells off...it is
If its the "2015 Kubota M7060HDC Hydrostatic Transmission - $15000" with 205 hrs... no obvious warning signs in the ad to me...proceed with caution though...does seem too cheap
Here's a screenshot of a scam ad. Notice the e mail address right on the pic. grand rapids for sale - craigslist
Also take note of the trees and etc in the background of cl pics. If the pictures has Palm trees in the background, and you live in Montana, things are fishy. Also, a mega low price is a reason to be wary. I have seen actual exceptions to these rules though.
Yes my words exactly, pay extra attention to the background, Does the picture look like it was taken in spring and it's winter time? summer etc.. I'm always skeptical about ads that show pictures that don't seem to match up with the current season or locale. I have seen some local numbers on scam ads so that isn't always a dead giveaway and sometimes people move into the area and never get rid of their old number. Which I get, with long distance pretty much going the way of rotary phones, it doesn't matter much anymore where the number is.
Thanks for all the suggestions! At the minimum, this is a $43,000 tractor new, so with 200hrs I’d expect a price at least double what is listed. The picture looks like a dealers yard, but I don’t know the dealers up there. And it looks pretty flat (but no palm trees!). This is Canadian border VT territory - anything about this look familiar? 2015 Kubota M7060HDC Hydrostatic Transmission
Thanks, but Isuspect since it was flagged there must be something going on - I just don’t understand this game.
Anybody can flag ads for any reason though too. I just had an ad of mine flagged...I'm trying to get rid of some spare cats...I'm like WTH?! Cats for $10...yup, gotta be scam! If it pops right back up, it may be worth at least calling about.
They're good at capturing their food bowl everyday! Nah, I'm sure they would be...their parents are...'specially mama
