image.jpg Hey guys just found this forum. I plan on burning wood in my new house whenever I get it built. I use to have a home light cheapo but upgraded to a new dolmar 6400 sometime ago and love the saw so far 2 cords of wood through it.

Nice!!! Welcome to FHC North woods!

The Dolmar (Makita) 6400 is a great firewood saw! Lots of power and feels great in your hands!

Again, welcome to the club. Look forward to seeing pics of your stacks and listening to your stories. :)

Good saw. Even better with the 7900 top end.

I have a 7900 and am completely happy with it. Not trying to hijack the thread but I purchased a Dolmar 510 last week for limbing and cutting the small stuff. The dealer installed a 20" bar and 3/8 chain which he said give it a try. I'm not sure about the breakin time, but through the first 3 tanks it seems a bit doggy. Yes it has the cat muffler which I'm sure is part of the problem as is the 20" bar. Any ideas about changing the cat (or removing the guts without killing the warranty or saw?

OP- nice saw... lots of farmers use Dolmar saws around here and they beat the heck out of 'em. The ones I've seen actually hold up pretty well considering the abuse.
S.Roche- wouldn't mess with the muffler quite yet... How's the dealer? 20" is the max bar size I think. Break-in time depends on a few factors, but you're probably still within that window. How's the tune?

Nice looking saw, can't say I've seen many of them around my parts. Stihls and huskys seem to reign here

Dealer is a great guy, very good with saws. Tune is his. Yes 20" is max. 5th tank of gas on dry ash so its not like I'm cutting Pine or Lyndon, maybe expecting too much.

Thanks guys I am in the state of Wisconsin. The first dolmar I ran and thought about buying was the 5105, I ran that then grabbed this 6400 and decided right then that was the one I was taking home. The 5105 would be a great limping saw. I see now they came out with a6100 that is suppose to be a good all around saw.

Welcome aboard! Lots to learn here from all the members. I've never ran a Dolmar but have heard great things about them.
