Main entrance to farm, nasty blow downs, hickory and oak and bonus beech. Best friend and hunting buddy for 25+ years is a professional logger-Prob was today was rifle opener and I could get under on the Foreman but side x sides would not fit, so we went over Sunday morning...
Nice to have good friends with different skill sets. Lots gets done that way for all involved. Nice to get those roads cleared! Looks like it's all downhill from there.
I have conservation land right behind my house, but man am I jealous of you guys with your own forests!
Dropping the beech to bring down the hickory...I figure at least a cord in all-bout a 10’ section of the hickory still up on the bank...Yeah, no charge for his services...lifelong friends, used to be my catcher in baseball and was a 2 time all-state running back in HS-hunted together most everyday during the rut and gun seasons for over 20 yrs, I let him timber the 400 acres in 2005
Yep Ralphie Boy , the hickory was hung up in the beech...Nice to have expertise on call-it was beyond my skill set...I’ll take the Polar in and haul out this week-didnt see a freakin deer today on stand-thinking Friday I’ll just pack the rifle and use my saw as a grunt call-they dont fear the saw...
Wouldn’t have a clue Urban Woods , unless you have some timber and looking to have it harvested-perhaps a CL ad or something? I’m just fortunate not only through growing up and the friendship, I know 3 others in the business, and the log buyer at one of the local yards...should have more firewood no? My log buyer friend sealed the deal on the 2 guys who stole the walnut off me in the spring that left me laid up and behind all summer...Good luck in finding a reputable logger
Oh that's right I remember the stolen wood story and how p****d you were....I was just being cheeky with my question, but glad you have the resources to get caught up. By the way that was some tension on that bent beech tree!
Waiting on the css pics.. Bueller? Bueller? Jk. Great to have a good friend to help out in need. Looks like you guys made short work of a hairy situation!
Fruits of first CSS since injury-walnut, red oak and ash-its off the ground-Friday I’ll bring in this haul of oak, hickory and beech-Need to hustle while weather is mild for this time of year...I have a year to make up
BigPapi it was hairy, I’d have ended up with a pinched bar I’m guessing-that area is steeper than it looks-got a good ten rounds to cut up on the bank from that hickory...the beech was not that big but def had some serious tension on it...prob 1/4 cord in that alone-will get it out this week and have all CSS by end of next weekend hopefully, Lord allows
Need a couple more T-posts. As I move the seasoned wood from the right, I’ll drive a post and add to the rail rack-I work it from up the bottom down to the wood shed...still have the cord of red oak at the far end thats 3yrs old...hope to not tap but prob will being a year behind...I’ll catch up
Now don't injure yourself trying to get caught up. You did a lot there in short order. Love that cement casing? and RR rails. Definitely high and dry!
Thank you Urban Woods , and the rail rack is still supported by basod ‘s cinder block-thats 33’ of span between the casings...LOL-Hope all are well and warm....
Ashwatcher delivers! Good show, sir. I never get bored of seeing those steel rails holding up your stacks.
High risk event with low frequency of doing the task- Call in a person with high frequency at high risk work. Good decision.
For sure it has to be interesting getting firewood from you land. Many times I am thankful our land is mostly flat; especially in the winter.
