I hear you about the hunting, I had a girlfriend some years back that I taught to hunt and after a while it just was a pain in the arse, after that lesson I don't encourage them to hunt. Shoot yes, shoot a bow yes, but that is about it. As far a stacking or loading the skid steer bucket by hand I'm all about equal rights !!

Some of the best days of my life have been in the woods hunting with the Mrs.

Every year it's her wild turkey for Thanksgiving. This year with her home made box call, from sawmill scrapwood.

She is my right hand. Maybe I'm her right hand?

She outworks most "men" and more competent than most. She can outshoot most too!

The 461 isn't her thing, but she trys.

It is a pretty rare occasion for the Mrs. to help with firewood. But sometimes. And, she will once in a while light off the boiler.

Usually she will feed me/us. Especially if it cold or of there is a group of is working it.

I do a large majority of it alone. Sometimes the kids are free & willing to help.

For the first time last year, the extended family spent a couple of days processing a lot of wood for everyone's individual hoards. I think there are 6 or 7 gassification or OWB between us all. Last year we all cut a bunch of 9 - 12 ft stuff and rented a peocessor for 2 days. We did 22 full cords split :axe:between us. All hauled and dumped at everyones houses. I am a little more particular about my wood, so most of mine was resplit at home later. 20180309_182442.jpg

All kidding aside, you might have noticed Katie is a good sport in all of this, and wears a lot of different shoes. The one in her little red dress she is wearing black and red heels both, with the bulldozers she is in Keds and white wedges, and with the skidder she is in thigh high boots and heels again.

    Why so many shoes?

It is because her first husband was rather controlling. She could not even dress as she wanted to, he liked her in windpants so that is what she had to wear. She could not even decorate her home like she wanted. But high heels? They were out because he was short and with high heels on she would have been taller than him.

With me, I do not care and let her join her shoe-of-the-month clubs. She is a good sport about it all so I don't really care. At last count, and it has been awhile, she has like 84 pairs of shoes!!

I have a and 5 daughters: there is not a day I do not hear something about ponies or horses. I have (2) really nice ones now though, and they have served me well for years: SAW Horses that is!!!!

I am greatly outnumbered here; the dog, sheep, even the pet bunny are all girls too, but so far no new horses or ponies.

Now I say no "new horses or ponies" because I have had a Pony. With a name like Gluestick, you already know this story is not going to end well. And no, I am not making that name up, his name was really Gluestick.

He was a free pony which should tell a man something right there, but anyway he had this penchant of letting you get an inch two from its bridal when it got loose...and it always got loose...then running off.

So one day it was just me and my 4 year old daughter out for a nice meal at a restaurant. Crowded of course. So I start telling her that her horse got loose again that morning. In a loud voice she says, "Did you shoot my pony Daddy?" You see that pony had taxed my patience so often that I was forever mumbling that I was going to shoot the thing.

EVERYONE in the place looked at me like I was the lowest form of fatherhood on the planet, then of course waited for my reply. "No, no I did not shoot Gluestick…" but it was not long afterwards he went to a different farm.

If all the petroleum in the world disappeared, I would log with oxen before I ever got a horse.

Kind of related to heat, and kind of not, and kind of related to shoes and kind of not, but regardless.

Yesterday I pressed into service my daughters to help me clean out the attic of this Tiny Home so that we could put in more insulation in the attic. It was full of empty boxes, but held a few surprises too. In one box we found a womans clothe hat and a pair of shoes from the 1930's.

Incidentally, we also found baby dolls with clothing, an antique sewing kit carrying case, another treadle sewing machine (this makes the third in the house). It will be interesting to see what the basement holds for treasures!

The girls hated to help out at first, but as they got going they had fun. Discoveries always are.

My wife (and kids) will help typically every time I ask for it. Mostly stacking with the girls.
Here they were goofing off on the job..

My wife has on occasion helped me split and haul wood. Typically, it's just me doing that part. Now at home, my wife will load the stove while I'm at work, to keep it nice and warm until I get home. She knows that i'd prefer to load the stove when I'm around. She'll also bring wood into the house from the patio stack. She's 100% capable of doing this all on her own, but she knows I prefer to do this. She'll run the splitter, but she won't touch a saw. She also thinks I'm too picky about my stacking, so she typically won't do that, unless we're in a time crunch, and I crib the ends. Then she just loads in between the cribs.

This is all good, because she handles nearly all the cooking, cleaning, laundry, all that other stuff. I deal with the car upkeep ( she'll wash cars though) and anything mechanical or electrical, as well as anything else that she'd rather have me do.
