Thought it would be interesting to hear what plans everyone has? Are you able to take Frday off to make it a long weekend? Anyone having more than one big Thanksgiving meal?
schlot, this year we are starting a new tradition, in the past, we used to do holidays early so that the family could see us without the extra driving on holidays. And what parent doesn't like the weekend before a holiday off so they can finish things without the kids being under foot. The nephews and such for now older and making their own plans. A lot of my friends are in their late 40s, and their parents and family are in different parts of the country or passed. So we are having the non family "family" Thanksgiving celebration here. It should be fun! And personally I'm extremely thankful, that I'm not trying to figure out how to host a family Thanksgiving on generators
Did Thanksgiving yesterday with Mom &!Dad... will be doing Thanksgiving day at the other half’s side... Then Friday or Saturday I’ll be smoking three turkeys.... 1 for me, 1 for a buddy and 1 for the other half parents... kinda started a tradition of smoking turkeys about 4 years ago...
That’s always a nice option. “The family you choose” as some people I know call it. That should be a real nice holiday. We host. Some of my wife’s family comes in. Hosting is a lot of work, it I have realized it beats driving an hour+ each direction all in one day for the holiday! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
oh yeah. Going to the in-laws Thursday. Then spending Friday and Saturday with my family. Going to be a great weekend. And I have a lot to give thanks for!
But we got the room, and plenty of parking, and my mother-in-law does most of the food prep This year a foot of snow. Might have to start a snowmobile sledding party tradition also. Greasing and prepping them now... kids are off this week
Thanksgiving day we are doing my mom's family's get together. I think it's over 100 people (she was one of 11 kids) when you count all of the cousins and their kids. It very well may be the last family get together with my grandpa. He turned 91 this year (grandma passed last year) so we really try to get everyone there while we still can. Saturday is my FIL's side. As far as all of the other family meals (my mom and dad and the wife's mom and dad) I just go where I'm told when I'm told to be there
Small and simple this year, just my brother & wife, and my husband & self, at my house. My son & family will be in Toronto. First Thanksgiving without my mom.
We met up with the extended fam. last Saturday at son's place downstate. That drive has really gotten old, but that's where most everybody else lives, so we make the trip down. Got there day and a half early to do some other stuff, then left Sunday morning for home. We're both exhausted. No big plans for at least a couple days.
Marvin 100??? TurboDiesel ...yes you do have a lot to be especially thankful for! papadave Is it a long trip?
The meal is at a friends house a few miles away and the after meal festivities are in my shop at home. Couple kegs of beer and our annual dart tournament. The plan right now is for a few extra campers parked here somewhere and plugged in for the furnaces to run since no one really wants to be the D.D..
I'll host, if everyone brings stuff (which is how it's usually done). The cleanup can be a bear though. We put on a lot of miles every time we head downstate (yes, yooperdave , I know we're already downstate), not to mention the time.
Heading over to Mom and Dad's which is reality is my sister's house with a small in-law addition. It's the running joke in the family to call it Mom and Dad's even thought its my sisters!!! We have lots of cousins and family over as well. About 25 - 30 of us in all! I have so much to be thankful for, it's going to be a great day and a great weekend decorating for Christmas. Nothing like the holidays with the little ones, they bring so much extra excitement to this time of year!!
Yep I'll bet its pushing 110-115 at this point. My wife's mom's side is big too. I'll bet they aren't too far off from 100. Keep in mind I'm talking from grandparents to aunts and uncles to cousins and their spouse along with all of their kids. Some of the cousins kids are soon going to be old enough that they will be having kids the next few years.
