At least you can tell if any walked by your stand. Snow usually helps, but it makes things so dang quiet. I like hearing a twig snap and leaves getting shuffled around. It gets the heart pumping.

Just got home from a long day in Milwaukee. My oldest Daughter is getting very good playing the Oboe. Had her at the University of Wisconsin at 9 this morning. Concert was at 3. The best of the best from Middle schools in the state have been practicing since Friday evening. The Conductor was from New York. Amazing concert. My wife and were blown away. Very proud Dad day. I left my phone in the car but I believe my wife has photos.

I’ve been awakened many times like that. One time I woke up in my tree stand to see a doe staring up at me with a confused look.

My sister played oboe so know those double reed instruments take some talent to even get anything out of that isn't just a squeak.

Congratulations to your daughter. It takes commitment and discipline to become accomplished at musical instruments (some more than others) much less be chosen to participate with the other stand outs from across the state. And not taking a shot at the school music director, but your statement of being blown away by the performance just shows what gifted kids can achieve when directed by someone of non-standard (elementary/high school level directing) ability. Don't get me wrong....there are many many passionate music instructors in our school systems. But I have also seen many useless might as well "fill this slot in also" school instructors.

Years ago was bow hunting with a buddy. This was in the very early days of portable tree stands when there was never a thought of using a safety harness while aloft.
we were hunting on a hardwood ridge on a fairly warm sunny afternoon, within sight of each other. I watched him slowly fade out into La La land. Next thing I see is him slowly melt out of his seat and "Geronimo" out of the stand. Fortunately he was only about 8' off the ground, and after landing with a "thud" ( because he was a big fat arse), he got up and shook himself off with fortunately, no after effects. I, on the other hands was laughing so hard I ALMOST joined him. Wish I had had the whole performance on video........................................... :rofl: :rofl:

That’s a scary experience. Like you said, it was lucky he was only 8’ up. My first climbing stand had a rail around it that I coud adjust up higher as a gun rest and to keep me from falling out. The next one came with a really good harness and that made me feel better. I always got my best sleep in the Woods. Once I was sitting at the base of a tree and it started to snow after I fell asleep. I was dreaming and remember asking my wife to close the window in the bedroom because I was getting cold. I woke up to one of those where am I moments. Lol. :whistle:

The two funniest stories I've ever heard was from a friend who's friend was sleeping at the base of a tree and woke up to a buck nudging his nose on his boot. Scared him half to death. Another time a friend of mine was so still he had a squirrel crawl up him to get up a tree. Almost every hunter has a good story.

I think that stuff is more for looking at in a fireplace that ain’t lit than burning it for heat.
