Just curious if members with home weather station units have paid enough attention to weather reports to see how close they are to what your home unit reads? Are they a must have item?

I notice sometimes the stove seems to fall flat in weather it has no problems with at most times, and then the weather reports don't jive with a simple outdoor temperature gauge. A difference of 5 degrees earlier. Could 10 miles make that big a difference? I notice it going the other way too, when the stove is punching way harder than it can, and eventually the forecast changes and explains it away.

Kind of annoyed that any forecast is garbage, so I figure at least they know what the temp is at the moment, and then they can't even get that right.:hair:

Nothing beats paying attention to all things that rely on the weather animals are a great tool they sense a change is coming this last storm in our area was forecast in 6 different ways and they all were all over the place with their estimates . but the stove was drafting different, the cats in the house were going nuts ,and the horse was staying up by the barn more all that with the barometer readings at home I was glad I got the snowblower out they were forecasting snow on grass 1-2" we ended up with 6" of wet slop I have a small weather station and most of the time its different than the broadcast but I am 30-35 miles from phila where they are forcasting from makes a big difference and I have had snow in my hollow before and 3 miles up the road they had none so 10 miles can make a big difference depending where you live but if nothing else trying to forecast your own weather is a challenge but fun JB:thumbs:

10 miles can make a difference, elevation or just out of the city/ suburbs can be colder bodies of water really affect weather too.

Weather station is a few miles(2) down the road.
The recorded data is always off by a few hours, and usually warmer than it actually is.
I have 4 thermometers that are all within a degree of each other.
The weather channel app always guesses warmer as well.

I live on a pond, it definitely makes a difference at my house. Turn off the main road at 96F drive 1/3 of a mile....which is what, 37 kilometers to you Canucks? And I've seen a it 90F at my house.

I bought an Acu Rite indoor/outdoor thermometer and humidity unit. Not sure I'd buy from them again. It goes long spans without reporting outdoor temps, regulations of battery condition. All communication has to be via phone, and when I called, the recording said it was over a 40 minute hold time. For $16 it's no loss, but what can ya do?

I live in a hollow in a valley. Sun goes down at 7 pm on my place.
I see 12 degree temp changes sometimes.
It's always a few degrees cooler here than 3 miles in town.
