In your first picture of the rocks, is where the tide backs up. Brackish water downstream. I've read that stretch was one time dreged and coal carts on barges were shipped up river. A few flipped into the river and I believe it was abandoned after that. Fish weirs were set up here in colonial days.

Noticed this exact performance a few weeks ago, now almost the whole pile is gone. This time I happened by just as the driver was uncovering the load. Pretty amazing to watch the whole load get delivered. After he was done I asked him how much wood that is, he told me his truck can hold 16 cords, then I asked him how much a truckload would cost, $3,800! Pretty amazing that this garden center has sold about 15 tons of the last load in 2-3 weeks .
With daylight savings gone, I find it gets dark when I still want to split wood. I bought a couple of these hats with the LEDs in them, and love them. Lowes has them right now, the difference between them and the ones on Amazon is in the on off switch. The ones at Lowe's have the switch in the bubble between the lights, the ones on Amazon have it on the battery pack, somewhere in the back of the hat.

I bought a CS-490 this spring and I really like it a lot. I thought about the 590 but the 490 is plenty big for my use and it weighs a bit less, which my back appreciates. 20 years ago there would have been no question lol.
I love my 490, a great saw that I've used to finish up the when my 590 chain went dull in the last few cuts. Have you done the easy muffler mod? Remove the spark screen, there's a plate with a small tube under it, also held by the same screws. Remove that plate, open up the holes in the spark screen retainer, retune the saw. Saturday was an adventure in construction. The church I pastor has issues that come from much of the construction and repair being done by inexperienced volunteers. The basement Windows are top hinged crank out windows made of wood, and the water dripping off the roof has rotted them at the bottom . This was caused by the short-sighted removal of the gutters because they didn't clear the snow from the edges of the roof, and had ice dams. I have to replace some of the windows as the frame rotted and the glass is falling out, then install gutters again. The biggest issues were that the old windows had no stop to retain them, and all of the exposed wood of the old frame is rotten. We had to create a frame and stop, then narrow the windows opening up (because I didn't account for the rough opening after the rotten wood was removed ) It took me 8 hours, and 4 trips to the home depot, and two other men assisting for part of the time, but we got that first window in and sealed. We ended up building the stop and framing entirely of PVC lumber to avoid any future for issues. Now we only have 5 more to install, at least the rest should go a little smoother.
I hate to say this but, all I can see is that dude putting his face in that chain once, that thing is scary as $#!T! Not to much holding the log either, Way to much danger there...
Exactly what I want for refilling the boiler! Always wear a cap to keep my hair from being singed, and always using a magnet flashlight for working. Off to Lowes tomorrow.
