Beech is a peach, for all the aforementioned-just split it quick and green-It will be ready under most conditions in one year and throws the mother heat...Nice score
Got it all split and stacked yesterday. Nice breezy southern exposure. Our Black Lab Molly standing watch. Our Chocolate Lab Fred is standing guard just off screen.
In my profile I mention beech as my favorite firewood. Just not a common score unfortunately. By now after cutting hauling and splitting I'm sure you're sold on it too.
It split very nicely, can't wait to get to burn some of it. I am fortunate to have a 4 year supply of red oak, this allows me to pick and choose what wood I go after now. I will likely be back out soon joy riding the logging roads watching for more.
Ill tell you this, I smoke my Beef Brisket, Pork Shoulders& Chicken with Sugar Maple only. My friend uses Beech and his food finishes better. BUT I'll never tell him that!
Might be cutting more Beech in the future...just saw on the evening news that there is some mystery disease killing Beech trees in NEO
Nice post on a wood that is kinda overlooked sometimes imwiley1 . It is very common up here and I have 5 or 6 trees on my land, but they are small understory trees that need releasing by cutting some of the big canopy trees. Lately I've been getting so much free wood, that those Beech will out live me.
Not sure, they showed black stripes on the leaves...said the ODNR (or something like that) was looking into it.
Thanks for the info, this is something I haven't heard of yet. So sad to see all these new threats to our woodlands.
Ahh, so they do know what it is! That does look like what they showed. I'm shocked that the media portrayed this as a "mystery disease" (not)
