It's hard to tell what that saw is. It says it's a 288 if you can see past the ripped stickers. But it's sporting a 281 on the inside on a 288xp.
Thanks again for having me down. It's a nice testing ground for the saw and even more is the fun I have with you planning the next move so neither of get pinned under the janga pile they left you. And the stacks your making from these giant rounds; very FH! IMG_7446.JPG

It is, but I've not been in a rush to get after it. Once css, this will be yr4 wood. Not having a saw with a long bar is also a reason it's been there since 2/18.

I'll get those new rounds quartered and moved to my side of the stone wall, and get to splitting them further, as rack space opens up. I enjoy using the x27 when it's around freezing temps. Especially when it's red oak that's fairly straight grained.

One advantage of letting it sit is, the flathead grubs eat the inner bark, making it easy to pull off later.

Regarding bark, it it comes off, fine. If it stays on, fine.

You get those tongs yet, Midwinter?

Got the tongs. They are pretty cool. I tried them out on rounds with rough bark and smooth bark, and they gripped just fine.

    Nice!

You'll get a better feel for them and how best to use them the more you use them.

Let us all know how things go at YOUR wood dump using them.

I think I'll keep them in my car, because the dump is where I'll need them most.

Well, M2theB offered to take some of his vacation time, and pay me a visit with his bigger saws today. Who am I to say no ~smile~

There was one remaining log/tree trunk left, of the three that were taken down.

Before we tackle the last one, I was able to dig a small trench under two areas of the log. It's like eating a elephant, eh?

The victim. I had cut 16" marks

Then, the noise began - M2theB all geared up, cutting as deep as possible, all along the length. IMG_20190725_082400519.jpg

Two rounds were removed, so the next in line would just fall into the trench

That is a morning well spent, two hoarders getting it done! Will you split them into quarters where they lie? Are you still working on the other two trunks?

There's quartered rounds all over the area. Todays rounds will be quartered, where they are.

I'll take the quarters and probably drop them on my side of the stone wall, where I'll get them into splits, moved, and then racked.

I'm guessing that I was able to css just over 4 cords, maybe closer to 5, from the whole process, including limbs

Just caught up to this thread, 1300 isn't a bad price at all for the crane, skid steer, and crew! Our daughter had 4-5 tree's removed, all oak, it was 1800 dollars for those, and i helped, being retired it was what i thought i should do. These were not big tree's. Plus, she let them go almost an hour earlier than she should have. This summer, they came back, left a bigger mess than before, limbs, lots of other foliage as well. I've about got that cleaned up this time. Told her, no more, make it understood that it is their job to clean it up a lot better than the last time. They chipped the limbs that were handy for them to get, and didn't put a lot of effort into that. I got some of the wood, that's not a plus in a way, they fell it, i bucked it up , they never even offered to help get it off the yard. I was doing their job, next time i'll be there when they get to the house and we'll agree on what is supposed to be done before they leave the job. I might be making more out of what it was, but, these guys are supposed to be ''professionals'' needless to say, they didn't finish the job this last time.

Good job! Looks like a good bit of hard work.

If really needed you can use the short bar too, just cut from bothsides of the trunk and incase theres a middle bit left use a wedge.
