    In a knot of ash. Jersey pattern Collins. Broken the 3 month old handle. The handle was just getting a nice BLO patina.

    It's my main wedge banger and splitter. Guess I'm gonna be drinking Busch light and hafting a handle tonight.

    Hard to like a broken axe, but great that you have the means to re-tool without having to leave home. Good choice in the BLO finish, I don't do much woodworking, but prefer it and tung oil (if time allows) when I do.

    Just put a new handle on a splitting maul that I broke a few years back.
    It's not the same, the head feels way too heavy.

    I usually don't like new handles as one tends to get used to the old one... But methinks you'll get 'er done.

    I have been there, replaced some and some still waiting on a new handle yet. It is said when we loose a wood handle on any hand tool...they can be refitted and still serve us faithfully, but the memory of the first handle always lingers in the recesses of our mind. I try to honor my broken handles by burning them in the stove on a special night while having a glass of Jim Beam and reminiscing of the times we shared...the fire that consumes the poor broken handle is an honorable tribute and that broken handle gives me one last bit of BTU's to warm me in my home, still warming me after it's passing...here's to you old friend. Cheers and thank you.

    There's enough left of the butt end I'll fit it to a hatchet, rock hammer, ball peen. Something or get two others and make legs for a foot stool.

    I buy every rusty dickered up head I find at garage sales. Wire wheel the rust off leaving the patina and haft them I've got 30 some axes now. I need to get around to selling them like I tell my wife I will.

    I hope. I bought several in the same lot. The feel doesn't bother me much. I adapt well. It's the lack of thick lsyered up, patina and oranged out BLO that I'm impatient for
