Thanks! I get a lot of it at the dump. Sometimes punky, sometimes not. This batch was nice and green!
Does this qualify for a "You Suck Award"? I'm not sure. It's kinda modest, but it sure is a pretty stack that does make me a bit jealous. Maybe a coveted "FHC You Suck Honorable Mention Award".
I checked the dump before it closed for the long weekend, and...POPLAR! The bottom trunk looked kind of punky, but the upper part was good. I loaded up, looked a little further, and... OAK! So I dragged it all home. Don't worry, I didn't have to sacrifice any poplar to fit the oak.
Congrats Midwinter! That recycle yard is really paying off for you lately. Can't beat wood scrounges that come already cut to length!
Busy day today. I split and stacked the little bit of oak I got yesterday... and cut the poplar to size. In addition to all kinds of other little chores. Tomorrow I babysit, Tuesday it's going to rain, and after that it's supposed to get really cold. If the scrounging continues to be good, I want to keep the conveyor belt moving along.
I've been deploying it, crud and all. What the hey. The mesh on lots of my tarps was opening up, and I wasn't going to spend money on new tarps when I have the rubber kicking around. I've used 2 out of 3 pieces that I bought. Both have been smaller than the dimensions spray painted on them.
Wet sloppy snow expected Thursday night, so I figured I'd better get my tin can shed filled before the roof collapses. The original plan was to fill it with debarked black locust, but I ran out of time to sit outside and peel bark. So I'm filling it up with the poplar and birch I got last week. I may not finish today, but I've got some time to throw at it tomorrow.
Midwinter gets the full award, no low-cal, watered down diet version for her. That's some nice hustle. Great hoard.
