Just not the typical oil thread lol ! I just went through my last gallon jug of mix today You see what brand I use....I mix 38:1-40:1...mix 1 gallon at a time to keep it fresh . I use a ratio-rite cup from my snowmobile days. This jug lasted me almost 4 years So my question....how much do you guys go through per year ?
I burn 15-20 gallons of mix through my saws in a calendar year depending on how much we're cutting. Most fuel used in one day was 5 gallons. We ran my 064 & 046 for about 6hrs non stop cutting Beech rounds for a family from my church. About 15 of us cut split & hauled 7 cord that day. That was a good day. Two saws kept 4 splitters & a skidsteer busy.
I cut this years wood for my house and a friend's house with 5 gallons that was mixed with Stihl ultra. I used to run redline but the sled shop went under so I switched to the Stihl oil.
For me it depends if I mill, which just totally drinks mix. I've never actually kept track of how much I've used. Imagine 10 minutes at wot (and now it's been ported, so it should be totally ignorant with mileage, lol).
I used to run redline in my race sleds, great stuff for sur. Man, I really miss the smell of 2 stroke race gas.
I switched from the XP Husky to Klotz. Oh that smell... I love it. Takes me right back to my youth dirtbike days. I remember the smell from the local motocross track. BUT, that stuff gummed up my saws terrible. A recent discussion on oils on another forum pointed out that the redline is very corrosive if left in the motor.
I use much less mix since I started using this... I still use mix oil for my trimmer and if I have a lot of cutting to do with the 70cc saw...thirsty buggers! Probably mix 4 gallons a year. My 550 gets only canned fuel and so does my 3400. I've been cutting less in recent years, so the cost hasn't been too bad.
I bought a 1/2 gallon of K2 about this time of year, 2 years ago. Still have probably 25% of it left. I'm too lazy to do that math right now to figure out how many gallons of mix I've used.
This reminds me I gotta buy more oil! I use around 5-7 gallons of oil a year between my power equipment and sleds. Only oil I use is legend. Little to no smoke(none compared to others) no gunk smells great.
I was laughing to myself a few weeks back when I had 100 ml of 2 stroke oil left for one more 4 liter pail of mix. I probably mix up 7-8 gallons of gas a year, but I always get fresh gas if it sits for any amount of time. My old truck sees more 40:1 mix than my chainsaw.
I use AMS oil saber, and mix 5 gallons at a time then transfer down to a one gallon jug. When the 5 gallon is empty it gets filled, haven’t kept track of how often. Just doing trail maintenance I will go through 5 gallons a weekend.
I buy the gallon of Stihl Ultra and it lasts me about 3 years, but I use a bunch in my blowers too. I bet I go through about 15 gallons or so a year of pre-mix with half or more of that going for the blowers. I measure mine out and re-fill my small Stihl bottles.
Ive been using AmsOil Sabre go several years now. I go through almost 2 full gallons a year just in my saws.... I mix it a tad rich (a little more oil than 40:1) and it's been treating me and my saws well. I use 91 octane non-ethanol fuel.
I use Amsoil Saber at 45:1-47:1 (I'd use 50:1 but I have a few early and mid 80s saws that require 40:1 per the manual so 45:1 is a good compromise between those and my modern saws at 50:1). Depending on how busy I keep myself I burn just under 2.5 gallons a month. I mix in a 2.5 gallon No Spill Jill with a ratio rite and usually dump the last quarter gallon in the truck and mix more. Seems like I always have a job that will need more than what is left so I mix a fresh batch. I use 92 ethanol free fuel. On big wood jobs I'll mix up at 47:1 -50:1 and mix up 40:1 in a 1.5 gallon dolmar can for the husky 298xp and 281xp, those drink fuel fast. I've used about 22.8 gallons so far this year. I used to use BelRay H1R but I discovered Amsoil turned the gas blue which is my favorite color so I switched to it. I don't care about their 100:1 claims. My 461 sips fuel. I get twice the run time compared to the similarly sized 281xp and the 99cc 298xp my 311 uses more fuel than I thought it would. My 250 drinks about the same rate. I'm pretty sure my Echo 330t has some weird fuel cell that makes sure it never runs out of fuel. My FS91r gets stihl ultra mix about every 3rd tank because its a four mix engine. My dealer said the ultra has a detergent in it to help keep the valves clean.
