I'm thinking Maple but everyone I've asked local has different thoughts... I've got lots of it and would love to know for sure what it is. Thanks in advance.
Welcome aboard Ryan phillips I don't have the answer you seek, but there will be others better suited to provide the answer.
Welcome Ryan phillips! Someone will be along soon to give you an answer. Unfortunately I'm not great at identifying wood by the bark yet.
I can get some more pictures tomorrow and unfortunately I don't have any pics of the leaves and don't recall what they looked like before I cut it a couple months ago.
We have to wait? Ok, where's my ? No pics before you cut? We don't ask for much. If Maple or Ash, it'll dry fairly quick. Not likely to be primo for this year.
I figured you guys would love the suspense... Lol! Yeah I'm clearing around 15 acres of my property and that dude was right in the way... Never crossed my mind to take pics before I cut it...
I want to say sassafras but it still looks off. It does look kind of maplish. Does it smell kind of like root beer?
Yep. Sass here has reddish/burnt orange color to the underside of the bark. And of course the telltale root beer smell....
I had a root beer float tonight. It was delicious. That looks a lot like basswood. Is it really light?
