Is this the same stuff people will use to paint the stubs when they saw off a big limb or a dead y on a tree???
I don't know much about the sale of burls other than what I've read. They, depending on size and wood type, can fetch huge prices. Some city and state parks are having trouble with people coming in and stealing burls from park trees to sell on the open market. They have had to set up "burl patrols" to stop the theft. Believe it or not a few articals mentioned $400+ per pound for walnut and maple burls and more for rare woods such as mesquite
Especially there it was reported 2-3 years back, lowlifes going into state/national parks, also private land at night doing their thievery
Just wanted to update you, the bowls are one coat away from final. They look mesmerizing to me, and check out the two with live edges.
Beautiful! Just beautiful! I you and your craftsmanship! I knew a guy in Columbia County, N.Y. that steamed wood planks into bowls and other usable items, including the occasional hat.
Thanks. My craftsmanship ended when I cut the burl off. Happened to get awesome referral from another friend to the true craftsman.
Thanks for sharing, such an amazing thread! The recent start to finish photos really tell the whole story.
Absolutely stunning bowls. That wood is so beautiful. Wood have been a shame to turn that into firewood.
