That's pretty much what we have here. 5.6% sales tax, and 75 to register, for a car.

BTW, this is not to be read that others should be required to register (pay for) their animals.

Only that dog owner's shouldn't be forced to pay fees simply because we want to keep a dog as a pet/companion.

I got ratted out by the vet about owning a dog too. Wasnt even a local vet! 30 mins away in MA and they informed the town I live in in NH.

As for the state tax, they definitely fee you.to death! One plus is that while they fee you every year in place of the excise tax, at least you aren't paying the sales tax as well.

Aren't all of these VETS who are ratting out their clients in violation of privacy regulations? They would be up here and subject to a penalty by the privacy commision.

    Exactly.

I mean cities ( none in the states at least) don't tax parents for having more kids. With dogs, nobody else other than those that own the pet is paying for it, but with kids, everyone pays taxes that go to them.

I like kids. Don't get me wrong.

I'll shut up now as I have some ash to cut, and some pine splits to haul.:zip::salute:

In this note, it reminds me of PA. My son lives in that state and he has gotten a couple letters from the township. Both threatening. Not explaining in a decent way but threatening. Like the time he bought a small camper. Had a nice place to park it but the township did not think it right and simply threatened him if he did not move it. Then when I was just out there a month ago he told me he got another letter (everyone in the township did) stating that everyone will recycle or else they will be fined. Wow! Not just suggesting that recycling might be a great idea but a threat.

Now in this same thought, I was present in a board meeting just this week. Our main subject was recycling and our problem is now becoming getting rid of the recycling as there is less and less call for it. We used to get paid back for sending recycling but now we are paying and the price just shot up again. So PA says do it or get fined. How does one win?

The shot for rabies is sent into the state registry. The state has that information available to the town. That is how they come after you. Here they do that once you are three months late. That is why I inform them of any dog I loose. I have already registered my dog for 2019.

Our Gov. has been trying to reduce taxes for years. He did get rid of the state taxes on military retirement income. But his can't run again. We will have a new governor in Jan.
The towns won't part with excise tax on cars every year. It is a major part of the town budget. Without it, the property tax will go up again.

If you have a dog here you have to get a tag. The town tag costs $.
They also keep track of rabies shots.
It's for the health of all the other dogs and residents in town, even those that don't own dogs. If you don't like it, move.
You get a reminder every January first when you do the annual census upon which you have to declare dogs.
You get a reminder if you visit the Town's website.
After ( I think) April 1st if you haven't gotten tags or notified the town any changes in ownership you start accumulating fines. No nagging love letters begging for money.
It's on the owner of the dog to know local laws.
If you're over 18 you really shouldn't need a mother to nag you to do things and be a responsible adult.

Same with real estate taxes. You get one notice/demand when they are due.
Don't pay them and they will gladly give your property to someone who will.

Well, I guess it's a good thing they do that, because we all know that dogs are the only carriers of rabies.

So are you saying you don't understand why dogs need to be immunized for rabies and distemper ?

Let's see, cats can be carriers of rabies, hmm.. no tags or fees, rabbits can be carriers of rabies, hmm.. no tags or fees

Plenty of wild animals run around, skunks, possums, raccoons, foxes, squirrels. Far as I know, no rabies shots for them.

But I have to pay a fee to have a dog??

BTW, it appears that rabbits and squirrels are rare carriers of rabies.

Guess I pulled that wild hare out of...
    my hat.

I'm glad to know that a tag can prevent rabies.

Took the words right from my mouth!!!
Bill, go back and read what I said. First, I "NEVER" got a reminder until the call that I was getting a summons! Second, there are maybe 2000FVCKN stray and feral cats in the neighborhood, "AND" these crazy cat ladies who create these cat colonies. Don't tell me "ALL" those cats are fixed, tagged, shots, etc... I'll call BU!!$#!T all day long. Third, we live in a technological age where a e-mail or fax paper can be sent to the township from your Vet and put into a record with your home, It's not 1958 anymore. Fourth, I live in a high tourist area where people bring their dogs, cats, ferrets, birds, mice, rats, and every other dam critter you can think of here for the summer. "What about those animals"? And, No I don't need a Mother to nag me to do things, but other things in life come about before a "DAM" dog tag Sir!!! I spent 26 Freakin years in the military, I sure as hell know how to be responsible!!!
