I really hope we get a "normal" winter here. I can handle snow and cold, but I've had enough rain and cloudy weather to last me a few years!
Some say milder than normal and some say colder than normal. Some say more snow and some say less. Around here they must just flip a coin.
LOL That is like 90% of the local weather on the news, They take 5 minutes to tell me what the weather was, then 15 seconds what they think it will be (+/- 50%) I’ve seen them change the forecast from 80% to 100% rain , but only when they needed an umbrella to get to the office
Must be the gusts are only where he's standing/bracing.....those folks walking behind him seem to be just strolling along w/o a care in the world. Can we all say, hyperbole?
When I was younger there was an elder that owned the local gas station up the street from my house. Great guy named Avery (RIP Avery) who owned the place forever. He was one of those guys that was a staple of our town. Everyone knew Avery. His gas station was called 13 Mile Post because out in front of his station was a stone marker for the 13th mile of the old Pony Express trail. I had never lived in the snow before and really didn't know what to expect. One day I was getting gas and figured I'd ask Avery when the snow usually comes. He said, "Do you see that rock out there?" I turned around and replied, "Yeah." He said, "That rock is magic. It will always tell you when it's snowing." With a furled brow I replied, "Oh yeah?" He said, "Yep every time. I just look out my window at that rock and if there's white stuff on it it's snowing." Avery was great.
3 feet snow no problem.. 40 below no problem.. When graders are used on paved roads to remove ice ... I got 4 cord on deck and snow machines and generator.. Sooo No problem..
I'm w/Avery. I use the Les Nessman Eyewitness weather report. I look out the window and witness the weather. It's always current and always right. Maybe Les Nessman learned to do the weather from Avery.

Picked up an olde farmers almanac and flipped to the winter 2019 page, basically new England can expect a bunch more slush and ruined snow storms... changing to rain. The only bright spot is that they've been wrong a few years in a row now. I'm thinking I should move north of Bangor, since they still have real winter most years. The upside to it all, more chances for nasty ice storms that bring a lot of trees and branches down close to home, easy scrounging!
I still have relatives in Caribou and Bangor and with a couple recent exceptions winters in northern Maine are nothing like they used to be either sadly. It’s tough sledding up there a lot of years and that’s what their economy runs on these days. It’s been hit or miss for a couple decades. Even the St John valley have had some low snow winters that were disappointing. That being said, most of the long range forecasts I’ve seen say the El Niño will bring bitter cold and heavy snow to the northeast coastal areas including more blizzards than usual. Like someone already said, we’ll know by April
