A medium sized elm blew down in the backyard, so of course there is only one option...

It took out a small locust, tiny cherry and tiny mulberry. All of which will be added to the stacks.

Gave about half away, had to pay back previous generosity. 20181021_182956.jpg 20181021_183033.jpg 20181025_093948.jpg 20181025_141125.jpg 20181025_141145.jpg

Not the easiest stuff to split but I have been burning some this year and it does make for some half way decent fire wood.

It's not bad firewood but you couldn't split it with divorce papers...

Hahahaha hadn't heard that one! Elm tends to split "better " after sitting a while.

Elm is pretty much the only hardwood that is readily available here where I live. It's hard to split and it stinks. But once dried out it does keep the house toasty on those few sub-zero days and nights.

You'll expel more emissions with all the effort splitting, either your breath or your hydro's. Best to let it lay.

    I rest my case.

Maybe in your neck of the woods but in these parts you take what you can get and be thankful you got it. Maybe you have seen those pictures of where I live and all the trees around here.
