Glass in Door is black from burning on low.

Very nice! 36 hour burns are incredible. And having your winters wood right by the stove is just plain smart.
So why is the new stove so much lighter, other than that birch?

Nice. What was wrong with the old one? How many years did you have the old one?

Long flu, basement instsll, most is outside.
cool air heavy, even with double wall. Even small leaks cool the pipe , & I get a down draft when stove is cool.
Mostly this time of the year when burning on low , not keeping flu hot & a good fire going.

Congrats- nice stove and it sounds like a great deal. Always wanted to try on a Blaze King King but of course taking a stove for a 'test burn' is not an easy or inexpensive thing.

Let’s hope it’s all in the right places! Do you see any changes that might prevent the issue you had before?

Not sure what I could do either.

would fire brick really help if you're running it low and slow? its a smoldering mess with the cat cleaning it up and making the heat at that point right?

If anything you'd want to add some insulation to the outside of the stove to keep that area warm so creosote doesn't condense on the inside. Little rock wool stuff inside the blower cover?

Even wrapped the handle. I suppose that is to prevent charring the wood?

So did you need to pay for the new bk? Fellow low and slow softwood burner would like to know!

Insulating the firebox actually allows a cat. stove to run low and slow while still burning clean. Non- insulated fireboxes take too much heat out of the actual fuel bed so the fire has to be turned up quite a bit higher or it goes out. Plus restricting the heat in the firebox really helps to raise the temps. at the top of the firebox and that keeps the cat. lit and working at far lower settings than any non- insulated type of stove can manage.

Not all that important for people who always run their stoves 'hot 'n fast' but a requirement for an efficient, consistent slow- burn.
