Just got couple of pics sent to me on some oak a guy is selling. Middle pic light up with 14 below and 27 above is confusing me. Also not sure what the high and low buttons on the actual MM mean?
There are two sets of numbers on that scale that are indicated by the same leds. The high button means you read the top numbers and the low means you read the numbers on the bottom. Also sticking the meter into the end of a split is not a good way to find MC of the split. You need to split the wood in half and then take your reading in the middle of the split right after you just split it. Other wise you are going to get a false reading. 27 means 27% moisture content which is to high to be used for firewood yet.
Thanks Mag Craft so in that middle pic he is pressing the low button it looks like so am I too assume in that pic for that reading 14%? If that's the case, I maybe onto something! I agree 100% that 1st pic is not an accurate reading I asked him to split and check the middle and he/she did.
Thanks Mag Craft !!! I am feeling better, it's 3/4 cord of wood, I think I may go for it!!! They also indicated I can still come by and check it out for myself so I will bring my gear and check a few more pieces and if all good I'll have some dry wood!!!
Get after it. Looking at the condition of the wood's exterior and the way the bark seems to be separating from the wood, combined with the readings on a fresh split face points to legitimately dry fuel, imo. Test a couple yourself too just in case there's any funny business.. But at first blush, looks like a winner! Sweet! -edit- if you keep the pine from the other thread too, I bet it gets down to 25% or so pretty fast and could be cut in with the nice dry oak in moderation to stretch your fuel supply. Not ideal, but better than burning snowballs.
Thanks BigPapi! 1st dry wood I've seen around here and have been looking pretty good past 2 weeks. I worked it out and keeping the pine as well!! Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
Indeed it is as I learned!! Picked it up this afternoon! Being new to all this I guess I kinda was under wrong impression all along. Just assumed folks and dealers who sell wood it would be dry. I learned the difference in seasoned wood and dry wood!! Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
3/4 of a cord I still have to go back and get rest, my 6ft bed couldn't fit it. 3 more nice size bins. $100. Everyone around here selling a cord for anywhere 170 -190$ so I thought was a good deal!! Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
You did gooder on that one ReelFaster ! That's a very decent price for ready to burn Oak. 3/4 cord mixed with some of that Pine as suggested above will go a fair distance. Glad you're getting some good fuel.
