Go ahead and say it. He's apparently not going to pay you anyway, so might as well be direct and to the point. Might end better than you think.

I'm old fashioned. I'm getting paid if I do the work. No free rides. You set a really bad precedent when you let a jerk like him get away with not paying. Getting real sick of people thinking they can do whatever the hell they please. I think your customers would fully understand your position, they get paid every week too.

    Hey LW

Here is something I just found on Page 9 in a Breckwell Big E manual! Maybe Harman should add it to theirs?

Looks like this is sayinng that your customer's old no ground wiring is damaging the pellet stove. (Circuit Board) What a surprise!

    ELECTRICAL INSTALLATION
This stove is provided with a 6-foot grounded electrical cord
extending from the rear of the stove. We recommend connecting to
a good quality surge protector that is plugged into a standard threeprong,
120V, 60 Hz electrical outlet. Voltage variations can lead to
serious performance problems. The Breckwell electrical system is
designed for 120V AC with no more than 5% variation. Breckwell
cannot accept responsibility for poor performance or damage due to
inadequate voltage. If connected to an older, two-prong outlet, a
separate ground wire should be run to a proper ground (refer this to
    a qualified technician).
Always route the electrical cord so that it will
not come in contact with any hot part of the stove.

the thing is, that its not a level playing field........you folks might not agree, but with the consumer protection laws, its pretty much a stacked deck against the retailer. Its not like we don't tell the folks what it will cost before ever leaving.....and once in awhile you get someone who tells you they don't care what the service charge is, they aren't paying it (before you even leave!)...those are easy....we aren't leaving. Its the folks who don't agree and refuse to pay after the fact. You cant pry open their wallet and take the money, and fighting it in court is a money-losing proposition.....it simply costs more than its worth....the best thing a guy can (legally) do is blackball the guy, refuse to work on his stove anymore.....I wonder if there is a BBB for bad customers? Like a Deadbeat list? Hmmmmmmm
