A few things help with tree ID... Pic of leaves. A close up of the end grain, where the saw has cut thru the log, into firewood rounds.
Does it follow you around the yard? If so, it could be Dogwood. LOL It actually looks like willow to me, but it could be oak. Post up an end grain pic, or best, leaves.
Yea the bark a tad off , but close & I don’t see the inch or so of sap wood. Sometimes pics are tough to tell, though the wood grain is s dead giv away Red oak:
It could be "yuck willow", as Horkn and Eric VW say, but may be a big Mulberry. I'm saying this Lissa because you were hoping it was Oak. Well, not sure you would mistake willow wood for oak, but mulberry has a similar weight and end grain to oak. When you cut mulberry it looks bright mustard green but soon oxidizes and tans into the rusty color I see in your pics. If it's Mulberry Good score! But again, not ruling out some sort of Willow or even Basswood which isn't much better. Barks on all three are similar give or take some chunkiness. Need more close up pictures to make a better ID.
Bark looks a tad too deeply furrowed for oak and the coloration that looks like oxidizing / enzyme browning on the heartwood (if that's what it is) doesn't look right for oak either. At least not any oak like grows around here. The V shape in the bark furrowing looks familiar for some reason and I'm just not placing it.
Hardwood!!! C.S.S and burn it in 3 years! I'm leaning on the Mulberry side also. Either way, nice score!
The mulberry I've cut was very yellow when fresh and had a millky white sap. Then after seasoning, it turns reddish. I'm not leaning toward mulberry. Not sold on red oak either. We need more pics.
That's not basswood. I'm certain of that. I cut a bunch of it last winter and will burn a bit this year. I have at least 2 more big basswood to cut up that fell as well. While basswood isn't great for BTUs, it burns really well, splits easily, and seasons quickly. Willow doesn't do any of those well. I don't bother with Willow at all.

That looks an awful lot like the willow I deal with around here. Just about the only wood I take to the dump.
