Just discovered this. Fuel injection. 6.8 horsepowers. 80cc. 13.9lbs. Impressive! MS 500i - Innovative new chainsaw with electronically controlled fuel injection
I am working a friend who knows senior Stihl people on an advanced sell. Huge stretch, but worth a shot even if I have to provide feedback or sign and nda.
I thought the 462 was replacing the 441 and 461. Now it sounds like the 500i is replacing the 461. Makes sense I guess, spaces models out about every 10cc. What's going to make it to the U.S. market 1st. 462 or 500i?
So what makes a fuel injected saw better (other than it sounds cool). I'm assuming it has some type of auto tune? Is it power to weight? Fuel efficiency? Less maintenance?
The stihl guy said in the video it is not replacing anything, but rather it is going to be a new saw in the overall line-up.
I think Stihl made a mistake with this. Maybe there are not many people like me out there, or perhaps there are, but after the Husqvarna 562xp let-down, there obviously has to be a replacement to that sad purchase, and I will inevitably return to the Stihl lineup. Now I had my eyes on a Stihl MS462, but now I think I will just wait until the Stihl 500 comes out. I am not in so much of a hurry that I cannot be patient on this purchase. It looks like that ability to hold off will end up meaning 10 more cc's for the same weight and fuel consumption, so why not. That will make the Stihl MS462 sales numbers be limited however, as I am sure I will not be alone in this decision.
