It was nice and cool, but way too humid! Offloading and processing can wait until tomorrow.

Thanks again Molly! Just let me know when it's time for the splitting payback!

I've got no business bringing home any more wood, but... Apple! IMG_20180919_44971.jpg
I got a pretty good load, just before the loader came around to push the pile. Now I have to find somewhere to put it. IMG_20180919_50583.jpg

I cut some other stuff, and tucked it behind the locust! Always room somewhere. IMG_20180919_3307.jpg

That must be one nervous tree. It sees all it's cut up brethren, laid all around it, only to be moved away at some point. It must wonder when it's time is up.

That pine tree will outlast me, I hope. It was huge when I moved here 30 years ago. I'm hoping to foist it off onto the next homeowner.

Not my usual dump fodder but I'll take it. A little dirty but no nails, OK for wood racks. IMG_20181015_6230.jpg

Does this qualify as car hoarding? Between my wife and me, we own 4 automobiles: 2017 Subaru Outack - wife's daily driver, 2011 BMW 335d - my everyday, 2008 Chevy Silverado 1500 - farm truck, 2001 BMW 540it wagon - dog/sheep hauler.

Would you hoard wood in your hoard of cars?

Fun day today! The weather was perfect, and I spent the whole day outside. First I rounded up all the white birch in the yard that hadn't been processed. I got it all CSS, I split it small because I use it as the first wood when I start a fire. This is for 2021/2022. IMG_20181019_54121.jpg IMG_20181019_31147.jpg I got to try out my new Hults Bruk wedge that I got in Ohio, on the knotty bits. I'm very happy with it. It is not indestructible, though, there is some slight deformation on the head after hitting it with the sledge. IMG_20181019_30531.jpg IMG_20181019_51532.jpg Just as I finished stacking, I got a text from my friend with the oak tree. She ended up just having a dead limb taken off, didn't want to spend the $300 to have the whole tree (which is still alive) dropped. Anyway, we had a good time watching the action, I cut up the limb, and ended up with a nice load of white oak. IMG_20181019_21343.jpg IMG_20181019_3118.jpg Now beer and food!

The head of the wedge is supposed to deform...if the steel is too hard it will break or chip pieces off when struck with the sledge. Eyes are like magnets for flying bits of steel.

I get a fair amount at the dump, people get tired of picking drops off their lawn, and cut down the tree. Don't need to hire a tree service, so they DIY and haul it to the dump.
