Gas Company buys pellet stove for residence with no gas heat but reserves right to reclaim it!

    "My husband and I decided to take a really proactive approach. We didn't trust that we'd have heat back in time," Pietrowski said.


    After speaking with an adjuster, Pietrowski and her husband spent more than $4,500 on a pellet stove, including the additional piping needed and the installation. They were assured the money they spent would be reimbursed. What the adjuster failed to mention was that once Columbia replaces the couple's gas-powered furnace, the company reserves the right to reclaim the pellet stove it paid for.

    "I did not ever consider a pellet stove as a temporary solution. It just never even entered my head for it to be a temporary solution. ... They have to drill holes outside," Pietrowski said, calling the situation "unethical and immoral."

    I don't believe a pellet stove is a temporary heating solution, there for the gas company shouldn't reimburse for the stove cost.

    It's a shame that they need the stoves. Gas company over pressured the lines a month ago. Houses blew up aND burned. One death. Most appliances needing to be replaced. Now, it's cold. I feel so bad for those people affected.

    They gave people in Lawrence MA electric space heaters. Is that because people in Andover have more expensive homes get more expensive pellet heaters? Is that fair?

    I still believe the couple in the original story is trying to get too much for free. How can they expect the gas company to pay for a new pellet stove and furnace?
