Thanks Larry. Was thinking along these lines... didn't know Clorox made something like this. Gotta get some before our next trip to the cabin.

 

I happen to see some post from Jellystone parks that stated to use Irish Spring soap on campers and trailers over winter as it helps keep mice out. Pic looked like they cut the bar in half.

 

I have it and feel it works well. I got mine at SamsClub, but I think you can also get it at Lowes or HD.

 

Round 2 today with the mice at the cabin. Grabbed my son-in-laws small trailer (could pull it with my honey's Subaru, my truck's in the shop) and loaded our home genny. Had to have power cause had to have shop vac available to clean up the #%*@#*%# mess. 3 mice watched me get set up, from up on top of the front wall... then, they were gone when I fired up the genny. Couldn't believe the amount of seeds, again, pilled up against the wall, now that their favorite food storage container was gone (the small genny they totaled). My honey picked up some new kind of Decon (sticky pads) but it's not gonna do the trick. Next time I come, I'm bringing the... 5 gal bucket/soda can on a rod, covered with peanut butter/overlooking a nice antifreeze pool... mouse eliminator. The outhouse is as clean as it's gonna get... until I get back in a week... ... here's a few pics of the fun...

This was the little trailers maiden trip... it did well and tracked perfectly. I'll use it again I'm sure. (SIL stores it here)

Mice are horrid this year. two little ones made the mistake of coming in my house. I have 6 cats! They tortured the mice to death, then left them in the middle of the floor. I would love to be able to let my cats outside, but they are hybrids and have no idea how to fend off preditors.

 

Don't know about formaldehyde, but both techs did mention that wiring for the Hondas has biodegradable jackets and that mice love it... ... good to know you've had success with the mouse bucket too...

 

We were told there is a soy component to the wiring coating and that's why the mice go after it. We have about four free ranging cats in the neighbourhood so our mice population seems to be under control.

 

I have issues with the chippies, I have one living under my siding!! I got 2 already with rat traps but that one under the siding is pretty slick....! I was gonna spray foam the entrance but want to make sure he's out 1st!!!

 

Be sure to use the peanut flavored spray foam.........................................

 

Same here. Had one taunting me a couple days ago, so he got a lead injection. #21 this year. I'm behind schedule.

 

If there is a chance of pets getting into the bucket trap use RV antifreeze. The mouses drown but if pooches or cats get into it it is non toxic. As for cleaning, be careful how much stirring up of things you do. We have had several deaths the last few years from hantavirus around us. They suggest wetting things with bleach mixture sprays to both keep dust down and kill viruses and nasties.

 

I decided to let the mouse chit n pizz just dry out, which it was doing. I'd sprayed all of the areas last time we were there with a Lysol chlorine spray cleaner, and I couldn't smell anything this time. I'm going to use -20 degree windshield washer fluid in the bucket. As far as stirring things up and breathing in nasties... I should be dead decades ago from cleaning truckloads of mouse chit out of the bowels of the old farm... I just wear a damp kerchief over my nose and mouth when it gets really bad.

 

Key there is the chlorine.
The Rv antifreeze is very inexpensive. Not much odor. I think the window wash has ETOH in it and will evaporate from an open container.

 

Mice, don't like them, case in point. I drove from Washington to Idaho to go elk hunting one year. I was by myself and, we had the use of a neat old cabin that used to belong to Diamond Match Company. I was the first to get there. I had left Washington at midnight, and drove almost non stop. When i reached the cabin, which was literally at the end of the road, i was beat. So, i opened the door, threw my sleeping bag over me, on the bed and fell to sleep. Several hours later i woke up, felt some thing on my cheek, i opened my left eye slooooooowly and sure enough there was 2 beady black eyes looking directly in my eye. I jumped up yelling and who knows where him, or her went, but, it was a mouse, sleeping on my cheek!! We put out decon, and all night long, you could hear them fighting over it, ha,ha,ha. There had to be hundreds of mice in that cabin. In viet nam, it was RATS, big ones, that's a whole different story.

 

They sure were big. I had one jump on my chest while I was in DaNang. But there were also hundreds of mice. My wife mailed me some traps. I could have spent all night reloading the traps if I had the time.
