Lots of good trees you can plant to replace the ones you are losing. I don't think there is any hope for the ash while that EAB is still around. Good that you were able to take it down and clean it up safely without paying out the big bucks. I have a couple trees in my front yard I would like gone, but because of the power lines running to my house, I'll need professional help to get it done right.

Nice job Horkn getting that down and cleaned up. I'd be at it for a week. :picard:

Good job Horkn. When I saw the picture of the standing tree I sort of cringed. All those limbs! But you got it down nicely and the wood is still great. All is well.

I busted butt on it again tonight after 8 hours at work today.

I took 4 loads of branches down to the lower area, and 4 loads of logs. All that's left is the stump and the lower 6-8 feet of the trunk. I didn't have time for taking pictures tonight, but I will tomorrow.

Suburban wood snob , I got my yelling at the TV in tonight, flipping the channels back and forth, watching the pitch count on the phone. It worked as the Brewers and the Packers won.

trail twister , I'll have to ask to borrow the simplicity chipper. If it works well enough, it will be faster than burning.

Backwoods Savage , so many twigs and branches. It's almost never ending.

I think I've got another trash can full of tiny twigs and sawchips to shovel and chuck.

savemoney we'll replant something there in spring. I'd love to plant a shagbark hickory there, or maybe a white oak. I'll need to rent a stump grinder, or pay to have that done probably. I've thought about just building a raised planter bed like 2 blocks high and planting tall grass (pampas or similar) and tall Canna lillies in that and plant a green giant arbor vitae next to that. Whatever I do, I'll make it easier to mow.

I propose a national Wisconsin night , each year on this date. I f Wisconsin Night fails to get traction we call it the Fall Sunday daylight productivity reclamation act...and get it in law.

    Good weather for football tonight!

Add that to the list of "unlikes" of wood processing.

My buddy and I were saying that's why we like cutting trees in the woods. Much less branch work, and what there is, isn't so critical vs at your house.

Those ash trees sure can have large crowns.

I don't like dropping trees at all, but you and your buddy are right!

I know we freaked out 2 of my 4 neighbors by dropping this and cutting it up without a professional crew.

That's good though. Those 2 neighbors are freaking weird. I like to keep them on their toes. One of them is the one I got the big silver maple from this spring.

Yeah, this will be for 20/21 heating season. I'm guessing it will be 3/4 of a cord. Possibly more. I'm bad at estimating the cord worth in log form. I need to get it stacked before I can know really how much it is.

I haven't had that hard cider, it may be a local thing for you Mainahhhhhhhh's.

We do have Cider Boys which is made in Wisconsin. I'm sure there's more as we have a lot of apple orchards here.

Downeast is out of Massachusetts actually and it’s widely distributed so I thought you might have seen it.
We have lots of orchards as well, and cideries are popping up here and there. I prefer the super dry stuff myself, not into the sweet stuff at all and most of the small local places have good dry cider. It’s fun to compare the different flavors.
If you like craft beer there’s over 100 breweries in Maine now. I don’t know how they all stay in business but they seem to do well with more opening on a regular basis. Tasting rooms are crazy on the weekends all over the place.

Depending on how close to the power lines the electric company may take it down for free. They took one down for us
We had the clean up but I did request 6' length which they did do for me

There's no power lines around it, and I made quick of it. It's been down since Sunday well before noon.;)

Thanks I will pass along. What if the line to the house is involved also? I kinda expect that they will punt because of that.

That's actually a plus for us suburban and urban wood hoarders. No branches :D
