So my cutting buddy is coming over and we'll be felling a decent sized ash that was killed by eab. I'm not happy about this as this EAB will be taking out about half of our trees on our 1 acre suburban lot. At least I'll have heat from the wood in about 2 years. I'll post up pics as we go.
Sorry it's been a busy day so far. Here's a picture of the tree. It's down, exactly where we wanted it. We pulled it with a line we put up in the tree, with my buddy's F-150 from the street to ensure it fell where it needed to. I manned the dolkita and did the felling.
There's a ton of branches. We'll be burning those for a while. I'll get more pictures of where I'm at so far. My buddy had to leave to pick up his daughter, but he was there to help me out with a lot of the hard work.
Ok here's some more pics. I took like 8 trailer loads like this to the brush pile. I'll need to get the burn barrel going. There's still another load or 2 of brush, then I can get the "sticks" and rounds hauled. I took a break for Advil and 2 Smith and forge hard ciders. Those are very tasty.
A leader off sugar maple.. Rounds to be split later.. Brush in FEL and on burn pile.. Nearest neighbor to north a mile... Neighbor kid's coming on wheelers for Smores.. Your yard is prettier!
Nice job..how would you describe those Smith n Forge ciders...have you had Angry Orchard n can you compare the 2 ?
They are pretty similar. I think there's a few flavors of the angry orchard, but only one flavor of the s&f.

We can just burn it. Or chip it. Neighbors do have bigger brush burning pits, I just don't. I did burn a bit of brush about 10 yrs ago just in a brush pile. I started great on fire. Oops. I caught it fairly quickly, and re seeded it with grass, but I don't have a good place to make a burn pit/ area like that. The neighbor has a small chipper I could borrow, but it's only a 5hp so I'm not certain how well it will work. Most of the branches are very small though. It might work.
It sure does stink we are loosing all these ash's. I had to take one down near my pool and now have zero shade on the decks. Did it leave any scars in your asphalt?
Zero asphalt scars on the town's road. That tree sure made a great big crash as it went down. My wife was pretty amazed. We took 2 bigger limbs off separately before dropping the tree. Both were taken down to keep from damaging my honey locust on one side, and a Birch and fir on the other side. The one stub from one of those two limbs did dig into my grass a little, but it missed my e-fence for my dogs. We did a good job.
Amazing what you can get done when you don't have to stay inside screaming at the TV, eh? Replanting? My sister has one in her back yard that is too close to the power lines to take down. Going to have to let the pros do that one.
I have a troy built 5 HP tomahawk chipper shredder you would be amazed at how good that 5HP chipper shredder does. But the motor became a problem and since thre company went belly up I decided the smart money went to a HF predator 6.5 HP engine. Now it works even better makeing mulch, yes even with seasoned Ash limbs. We don't burn any thing any longer except the fire wood stuff. Al
